OLD RECTORY COTTAGES IN THE AUTUMN
We are now entering one of our favourite seasons. Autumn brings golden landscapes, a scenic view, marked by features like superb foliage, harvesting of the last crops, and sunset horizons. Crisp fresh air – all a perfect excuse for a relaxing break in the country. As a previous guest, you will know a stay at The Old Rectory offers an impressive location for an autumn or winter respite before the hustle & bustle that can be Christmas.
Autumn is a wonderful time - Although the days won’t be as hot as this Summer, there are still plenty of bright days to enjoy. The summer crowds are gone, and what’s better than a pub with a roaring fire after a country walk. Alternatively, if you fancy something a little less active it’s the perfect time to rest, recharge and cosy-up
Here are some of the things you can do during a stay at The Old Rectory whether you stay is a couple of days or you are able to treat yourself to a longer holiday
What are the attractions of a break at The Old Rectory?
1. Enjoy one of our catered Dogs Dinner Breaks
What’s the deal? 2 night’s accommodation in one of our cottages (breaks can be extended-please telephone to book). We provide local ingredients in your fridge to enable you to cook a hearty breakfast (free range eggs, sausages & bacon from free range pigs, bread & homemade marmalade – (it makes you feel hungry just thinking about it!) at a time that suits you.
Each evening, we prepare a 2-course Dinner chosen from the menu and serve it in your cottage. Afterwards we deal with the washing up. When you arrive, there will be a Welcome Pack containing tea, coffee, cake etc so you won’t have to go shopping during your break or load the car up (unless you have forgotten to bring a couple of bottles of w**e with you!) Special diets catered for.
The total cost for the 2-night short break for two people is from £342 (seasonal supplement applies for certain dates) – no wonder they are so popular.
Ideal for birthday, anniversary or just as a special treat (for yourself!) – Why not take a break with friends or family and book more than one cottage?
2.Give your dog a break from the November fireworks season and on New Year’s Eve
Set in tranquil open countryside in the heart of rural Suffolk, you can relax with your dogs in an impressive cottage. Each cottage is unique but all have style and character in common
For some dogs, the loud bangs and light show can be a source of stress and anxiety. While we can’t promise that no one around us will let-off fireworks, we have been welcoming guests to The Old Rectory for a firework-free break for many years. We are away from any other houses at the end of a long drive, surrounded by farmland
That’s one of the reasons our guests tell us how peaceful their stay feels, especially those with dogs who dread this time of year.
3. The Bungay Christmas Street Market
Bungay has a great reputation for the street markets that it holds, and will once again be organising its very popular Christmas Street Market on 6th December (between 8.30 & 4). Earsham Street will be packed with around 120 stalls, offering unique gifts, seasonal foods, crafts, and local treats and presents for the hard to buy for.
Additionally, there will be live music and local charity stalls and a maker’s market nearby at the Fisher Theatre
Many of the independent shops & cafes will also be open to enhance the experience.
4. Let us serve you a two or three course meal in your cottage
Want to spoil yourself? We can cook a meal for you during your stay, serve it in your cottage and deal with the washing-up afterwards.
All meals are prepared wherever possible using fresh, local, seasonal products. As befits the country, meals are wholesome and hearty. Vegetarian options are also available. A two- course meal costs £20 pp, and a three-course meal £24pp
5.Visit a National Trust property in November or December
