This striking rock formation is one of the most famous hidden gems along the Antrim Coast Road, located just west of Ballintoy Harbour. As you follow the coastal path toward the sweeping golden sands of White Park Bay Beach, the dark basalt cliffs naturally erode into distinct shapes. The "Elephant Rock" stands out perfectly as a massive sea arch where the natural opening forms the space between the elephant's trunk and its front legs. At high tide, the Atlantic Ocean crashes right through the arch, making it look as though the elephant is standing directly in the surf.

Starting from the quiet, traditional fishing hamlet of Portbradden, the trail leads you westward along a highly dramatic shoreline. Early in the walk, you pass through the stunning natural sea arch locally known as "The Eye" (or Portbradden Cave). Emerging from the darkness of the cave frames a breathtaking, sudden view of Benbane Head and the sweeping cliffs ahead.
As you continue navigating the path towards the iconic Giant’s Causeway, you will look down into a secluded, steep cove to spot the red-roofed Port Moon Bothy. This historic, isolated stone building was originally a salmon fisherman's cottage.

One of the scariest moments in a car is driving along the North Coast Roads and coming to the drop in the road. This occurs when driving from Ballycastle to Ballintoy and is best experienced at a slow speed in a car. Here is a dash Cam video – what do you think? 😀😱

Enjoy the trip down to the small Ballintoy fishing harbour, which can be found less than a mile from the village and is steeped in Northern Ireland history, four miles from Isle Cottage. 😀
