Autumn 🍁

08/10/2026

If you’ve ever looked at a Welsh mountain road and thought “how hard can it be?”, this one is for you.

Cycling Weekly’s Simon Warren took on every major pass in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, in one big ride. It is a brilliant read for anyone who loves big climbs and big views.

Worth a read if you’re planning a cycling trip, dreaming up your next challenge, or just enjoy seeing what our local roads can do to even the strongest legs.

Read the article here: https://www.cyclingweekly.com/travel/i-was-going-to-need-that-extra-toast-tackling-every-major-pass-in-the-brecon-beacons

Having hatched a customarily screwball plan to bag every major pass theWelsh National Park has to offer in a single ride, Simon Warren suffers the consequences

We snapped this view of Bwlch (our village) and Buckland Hill (both encircled by a temperature inversion) on our way to the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday. The early bird 🐦 got the worm 🐛

Autumn sunshine, happy dogs and a walk along the canal to Llangynidr Locks 🍂 🐾

It was lovely to see so many walkers and cyclists out enjoying the day, with plenty of smiles, boots and bikes passing by.

We finished with a coffee at Depot 65 Canalside Emporium - beside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal - where the volunteer lock-keepers were on hand too.

A simple, very good day out in Bannau Brycheiniog.

An old, blurry picture from our photo album....

Congratulations, Derek the Weather, on an incredible 30 years with BBC Wales.

You have brought the weather, walks and wonderful corners of Wales into so many homes, and it was a real pleasure to welcome you to Bwlch and the bunkhouse during the filming of Weatherman Walking.

Thank you for inviting Emma to appear on your programme too. We are proud to call you our friend, and a friend of the bunkhouse (we are are thinking of renaming Room 1, Derek's Room!), the pub and the village.

Wishing you every happiness for what comes next, Derek. Diolch yn fawr.

A short visit to nearby Talybont-on-Usk this morning. A lovely village and farming community with general stores, café, pubs, canal, etc. with access to both the hills and low-level adventures. Lots of cyclists, mountain bikers and dog walkers like me out today. It's beginning to feel a lot like Autumn 🍁 Now enjoying a cup of tea in my favourite mug Herdy UK
