A hostel, but not as you know it…

Here at the Rocks Hostel Plas Curig we love to do things a little differently, and over the years we’ve realised that you love them too.

Here’s a little (slightly biased) review of some of our favourite things that make us more than just a hostel.

We’d love to know if there was anything that surprised you about our hostel here in the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park or any little details that you loved while staying with us.

Our hostel is only a 10 minute drive from one of the most popular routes up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and on the Sherpa bus route. We are 15 minutes from the Ogwen Valley and 2 minutes from the Snowdonia Slate Trail. We are right in the heart of the National Park with some of the best hikes and trails on our doorstep.

Cosy season is coming…

And I’m not saying you should book an autumn escape to the mountains… but I’m also not giving you many reasons not to 👀🍂

Because autumn in Eryri just hits differently…

Cold, crisp mornings. Big walks through Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park where mist hangs over the mountains. Coming home with muddy boots and pink cheeks, getting the wood burner going and spending the evening playing cards, drinking w**e and talking absolute nonsense until far too late.

The Retreat Cottage at The Rocks Hostel in Capel Curig is made for exactly this kind of North Wales getaway. There’s room for the whole family (or a group of friends to getaway), a cosy wood burner and views towards Moel Siabod, with Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and some of the best walks in Eryri right on the doorstep.

So if you’re looking for a cosy cottage in North Wales for an autumn break, a base for a hiking weekend in Snowdonia, or just somewhere to disappear into the Welsh mountains for a few days…

Objectively unhinged or completely reasonable?

To some people, it makes absolutely no sense.

To our people? Completely reasonable.

Spending hundreds on hiking gear then sleeping in dorm bed in North Wales. Getting up earlier on holiday than you do for work. Walking uphill for hours in sideways rain and coming back saying “that was class”. Eating a squashed sandwich on the side of a mountain like over a Michelin-starred meal.

The Rocks Hostel might be a little different from your average place to stay in North Wales, but that’s kind of the point.

We’re a hostel in the heart of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), surrounded by some of the best hiking and walking routes in North Wales. A place where muddy boots are normal, nobody bats an eyelid at a 5am alarm, and conversations with complete strangers regularly start with “where are you heading tomorrow?”

We’ve got dorm beds from £38, private rooms if you want a bit more space, somewhere to dry your kit and, most importantly, the mountains right on the doorstep.

So if your idea of a good weekend involves big days hiking in Eryri, questionable Welsh weather, tired legs, pub dinners and doing it all again the next morning… You’ll probably fit right in here.
