Tama’s Warning (That Boy) is the latest tune out by the Cardiff art-pop band Tales In The Shade. Having animated the stage at NosDa many times we are thrilled to see them being so productive. The band is a five piece, with two Sam’s (M and F) sharing the vocal mic! They really display their story telling talents in their newest single 🌟OUT TODAY🌟!! As stipulated in their biography, they write songs about films that were never made (but probably should’ve been) and the synopsis of this one, from what we can gather from the lyrics, would go something a bit like this: the tale of two boys named Tama and Kai who live in a tropical island town, who’s friendship is very strong and who fool tourists together. One day a strange dark entity appears from the jungle and manipulates the latter into kidnapping young women to perform experiments on. Understandably, Tama is trying to warn them. This story explores the trajectory of a friendship turned to intense rivalry, from happy days to darker times. Along with it’s big open airy production this track really shows it’s individuality. It’s said that the band were recording in a converted church when the lockdown was announced and that they managed to capture and bottle this magic in the nick of time. Produced by the unique Made By MJD where the formerly mentioned place of worship has clearly offered loads of enchanting natural reverbs. The track opens with beautiful, almost flamenco guitar, Sam’s (F) anthem-esque vocals and raw open drums. Throughout the percussions are spectacular and Sam’s (M) staccato vocals beat to the rhythm of the exciting narrative. I can strongly state to expect more to come from this band as it seems their wild and vivid imaginations never run dry!

It's Fresh Music Friday is it not? Charlie J is a rapper and producer based in South Wales, best known amongst NosDa regulars for his brilliant song “Butter” which usually gets the room bouncing. The talented self-produced artist is back with a softer more heartfelt track and music video. Within the narrative of the video we follow Charlie J to the Mumbles, Swansea where the beat matches the hazy brightness of the visuals. In his new single, the young rapper is following his dreams but tells us he won’t resort to anything dishonest to get there. Former winner of our Christmas Talent Show we are so happy to see him busy doing what he loves! We can surely expect a new release very soon too, so be sure to watch this space:

🌒𝓕𝓲𝓷𝓷 & 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓙𝓪𝓬𝓺𝓾𝓮𝓼🌘

Finn & The Jacques is a Cardiff based glam folk band. Finn headlined the NosDa Introducing event on the 29th of February 2020. That’s when I first heard Born Under Bad Stars. This refreshing debut single was released earlier this summer on the 11th of July and has already caught a lot of attention on streaming sites. It’s catchy and full of bare emotion. It feels like you’re sat with them in your living room as Finn’s clean vocals sing along to the Cajon and lead guitar. The track ends with a broken down chorus with just Finn’s voice finishing it off nicely. Born Under Bad Stars has been in my head since first hearing it, I love the melancholy and rawness of the track and I’m excited for their next release.

Further to today’s Government Announcement, it’s with a heavy heart that we can confirm the indefinite closure of NosDa Hostel & Bar due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. While this decision will not come as surprise to many, it has sadly become impossible to continue trading in the current climate. As a member of the tourism AND hospitality sector, we’ve been fighting this crisis on two fronts – a fight which we simply are unable to win.

We’d like to pay credit to our local suppliers, many of whom are in the same position as us right now. We’d also like to send our solidarity to the music and arts community in Cardiff, many of whom we consider part of the NosDa family, and who are also facing an elongated time of uncertainty. We’re proud of the reputation we’ve built as a local music venue and we are determined to return better than ever in the future.

Our staff are our family. Some are already self-isolating. We are thrilled that the Government has pledged to help us look after them during this time. We’re going to need them in a few months! We are looking into setting up a “NosDa Creative” online fund in order to help us rebuild our arts programme when we return – watch this space!

If you have reservations with us in the coming weeks or months, please continue to communicate with us via email, and rest assured that each reservation is being handled on a case by case basis by management.

Thank you for being part of the NosDa story so far - we really look forward to the world returning to some sense of normality soon so we can write a new chapter in the small corner of Cardiff that we love so much. And of course – when we DO return, you know we’ll be having one hell of a party!

Take care of yourselves, your families, your friends and your neighbours.

Sion, Diane, Steve, Rachel, Sophie, Alice, Nick, Brad, Haydn, Tom, Shannon and all our extended NosDa Criw everywhere!

BIG SESH POSTPONED 😢😢

BIG SESH POSTPONED 😢😢

Absolutely gutted to have to do this, but unfortunately we've made the decision to POSTPONE this year's Big Sesh.

While NosDa currently remains open pending further government advice otherwise, the overwhelming social responsibility over holding events in the current climate makes this decision inevitable.

We'd like to thank everyone for their support this year so far, the artists who were down to play and to everyone who nomited us at the Cardiff Music Awards this year. With all this love and support, there's no way this will be the last you hear from us. We'll back back as soon as we can and we'll make plenty of noise about it!

We'd like to offer our condolences, support and solidarity to EVERYONE affected by this global issue, but particularly our friends & colleagues in the music & hospitality industries and to express our gratitude to all the servicemen and women on the front line doing their absolute best in this hour of need.

For now, but not forever.

The Big Sesh & NosDa massive x

NOSDA COVID 19 UPDATE….

In this fast-moving situation, we’d like to let you know a few things…

Until we receive government advice to the contrary, we are still open.

Until the end of March at the very earliest, ALL our live music events including Open Mic Night tonight are postponed.

If you do visit us, please make regular use of our hand sanitizer stations. Please practice social responsibility if you’re feeling unwell and stay away.

For our “Cardiff locals”, If you’d like to support us at this difficult time, but don’t feel comfortable drinking in then we are offering 25% off any off-licence sales – just ask! This includes keg beers if you bring your own sanitized container for us to fill.

Please take care of yourselves and your families during this unprecedented time. Be kind. Wash your hands. Look out for your neighbours!

We wanted to post something today about supporting small local businesses through this difficult time; we wanted to post something today saying thank you to all our incredibly understanding Welsh, Scottish, French and Spanish guests this weekend, who traveled all this way for no rugby.

Instead, we’re posting about the actions of our neighbour and his construction crew, who’s apparent feud between themselves has led to our lane being blocked and our guests and staff cars stuck. We’ve now had zero access to the carpark since 2pm today.

Police, council and highways have been informed, and amazingly this will be cleared by 7am Sunday morning. After which time we will be meeting enforcement officers to report the illegal activities of some shoddy workmen who have caused us and our guests more distress and annoyance at an already trying time.
