Please help us challenge the Welsh 182 rule.. The Welsh 182-day rule requires holiday let owners to actually have visitors booked for at least 182 days a year in every unit. Failing this, the property is reclassified as a second home, making it liable for standard council tax + a premium council tax up to x3 in some areas crippling family homes & small businesses, this is causing many to close, damaging tourism with knock on effects to local shops, businesses and tourism destinations.
The Senedd recently raised the occupancy threshold from 70 days to 182 to qualify for small business rates relief. This is very difficult to achieve particularly in inland areas. Tourism is being adversely affected and businesses are shutting down at a worrying rate.
