**A hundred years in the making**

This is flax, freshly harvested here at The Lint Mill — our first time growing it. Fitting, given our name: archaeological digs on our mill lade found evidence it was processing flax into linen back in the 19th century, part of a trade that once ran right across this region before cotton took over.

The blue flowers have given way to seed now, but it's the stalks we're after — the part that becomes linen fibre. Barely enough here for a handkerchief, but we're having a go anyway.

Sometimes the point isn’t the yield. It’s closing a loop that’s been open for a hundred years.

Our goats milk soap has been out of stock because we had to wait until our two Royal Golden Guernsey Goats (Lulu and Nora) gave birth to their first kids. They both had lovely sets of twins and now the kids are weaned, Lulu and Nora are sharing their milk with us.

So soapmaking has begun again!

The soap takes 8 weeks to cure, and will be available to order from 1 November – just in time for Christmas!
