Access is by a forestry track which flanks Ennerdale Water. For friends and users of Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre. This Field Centre is in Ennerdale, Cumbria.

Set in the heart of beautiful Ennerdale, England's remotest, quietest and least inhabited valley, Low Gillerthwaite rests at the feet of Pillar, Steeple and Red Pike. It is run by members of the Association which was established by students and staff of City of Leeds College of Education to commemerate its Diamond Jubilee.

A plea from a small charity.

When an organisation books Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre, we reserve the Centre exclusively for them. We turn away other enquiries and plan our finances around those confirmed bookings.

When those bookings are cancelled at the last minute, there is almost no chance of replacing them.

Unlike large commercial venues, we cannot simply absorb losses of thousands of pounds. Every cancellation has a direct impact on our ability to maintain the Centre, invest in our facilities and continue providing affordable outdoor education and wellbeing opportunities.

Late cancellations don't just leave empty beds, they threaten the financial sustainability of charities like ours.

If you book with us, please honour your commitment wherever possible or let us know as early as you can if circumstances change.

Your support helps keep Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre open for future generations.

One of the things I love most about Low Gillerthwaite is the people it brings together.

Today was a reminder that new connections can lead to new opportunities. After a really positive meeting, I'm feeling excited about what the future might hold for the Centre.

When you're surrounded by people who care about education, wellbeing, the outdoors and community, possibilities start to appear everywhere.

What a day 💚

Today meant a lot to us.

As Special Guardians ourselves, we know how unsupported and isolating kinship care can feel. That’s why this day was so important,not just as an event, but as something we genuinely care about.

With the support of ( Janine Katherine ) , we were able to offer carers a dedicated session focused on supporting their child’s mental wellbeing, the kind of support that should be more accessible, but often isn’t.

While carers took part, the children spent the day doing what children should be doing, outside, active, and connecting.

🌱 Tree planting
🐔 Feeding chickens
🧭 Orienteering
🐣 Easter egg hunt

But more than that, they were spending time with other children in similar situations,and that matters.

Every child and carer left smiling.

We feel genuinely humbled by today and incredibly proud of what was created together.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, and to for delivering such a valuable session.

We hope this is just the start — and we’ll be doing more of these soon 💚

A real pleasure to welcome Baroness Hayman, David Drake from and Ross Hayman to Low Gillerthwaite this weekend.

We had some great conversations around the importance of connecting people with nature — from outdoor education and teamwork, to digital detox and the role the environment plays in mental wellbeing.

At LGFC, we see first-hand the impact of giving young people space to step away, build confidence, and reconnect with both nature and each other 🌿

It was fantastic to share our projects and plans, and to have such a positive and engaging discussion about the future.

Thank you for taking the time to visit us , we loved showing you around.
