REFRAMING THE COSTS OF HR

𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘀𝗸: "𝗗𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗥?"

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀: "Do we need to carry the fixed cost and risk of employing it?"

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱.

𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗥 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁, and you'll spend £32,500–£40,000 a year once you add employer NI, pension, recruitment and training. That buys you admin capacity, and you'll still be paying someone else for employment law advice when something serious lands.

𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗥 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 and you're looking at £55,000–£80,000+ a year. That buys one person's knowledge, with no cover for holidays, sickness, or cases that sit outside their experience.

Outsourcing gives you the full function rather than a single hire: employment law expertise, employee relations support, manager training, and strategic and board-level advice for a fraction of the fixed cost, from £420 + VAT a month.

Wondering how the numbers stack up for your business? Let's talk.

Done badly, they damage trust and morale and, if the process is flawed, leave you legally exposed. Done well, with a fair and careful process, they protect both those leaving and those staying.

The difference is almost always in the planning and the process, not in the decision itself.

If something like this is on the horizon, the time to seek advice is before you start, not midway through. Our Employee Relations team can help for a single transparent fee.
