Many historic houses in the Three Counties feel lived-in rather than preserved - and that’s no accident.

Instead of being frozen at a single moment in time, houses here were adapted, extended and reshaped over centuries as families, fortunes and fashions changed.

Anyone who has been to Barton Court, or either of our cafes, will know Tina. She is not just our beloved gardener (but she certainly is that) she is also the backbone of what we do here: a dear friend and support.
Tina was going to help me with this weekend's Brocante Sale and next week's Paperwhite Planting in the house but she has been in the wars recently.
A couple of weeks ago she was attacked and badly bitten by a pack of three dogs outside her home. You can imagine how awful that must have been - on so many levels.
She was starting to heal, going stir crazy because she is such an outdoors person and wanted to be back in the garden so she rushed to get back to work. Now she has come down with a horrible cough, cold and chest infection that sounds a lot like covid.
She needs to rest up and get her strength back so we have cancelled the paperwhite planting and refunded everyone. You have all been really lovely and understanding so thank you for that.
This Saturday's Brocante Sale will still go ahead and we will do our best but it will not run as smoothly without her so please bear with us.
Fingers crossed she will be back on form soon and ready to make wonderful Christmas wreaths with you in December.

Buying food in a market bears no resemblance to supermarket shopping. There is no reason to rush in and rush out, fling things in a basket and get out at top speed.
