Fancy joining the kitchen team at The Pheasant Inn?

We’re looking for someone who wants to be part of what makes our food amazing! Whether you’re starting out as an apprentice, training up, or already an experienced chef, we’d love to hear from you.

It’s 34 hours a week minimum, with more hours available@. Our chefs get three days off one week and four the next, so there’s a good balance between time in the kitchen and time away from it.

Weekend working and your own transport are essential.

Hospitality has been duped!!

Unless you gave the cavalry the wrong postcode, Andy?

Pubs have been good enough to provide the backdrop to your political publicity. We even rallied behind you after you publicly backed a lower VAT rate for our sector.

Now you have the power to act, where’s the help?

Despite the calls for 10% VAT, despite the campaign, despite operators explaining that the numbers simply don’t work, we’re left absorbing another round of rising costs.

🍺 Alcohol Duty up 4.55% from February 2027.
👥 Minimum wage rates up 3.9% from April 2027.
💷 No hospitality VAT cut. Still no timetable for the reform you backed either, in fact, VAT reform wasn't even mentioned.

And let’s remember how much tax we already hand over.

According to the British Institute of Innkeeping, around 40p in every £1 spent in a pub already goes to the Treasury.

Then comes the headline answer: Business Rates Relief!

Yes, business rates relief will help some businesses. But presenting a discount on one bill as the answer to rising costs across the entire business feels like an absolute con.

It doesn’t make the VAT bill disappear. It doesn’t cancel the duty increase. It doesn’t fund the growing wage bill. We have to balance the whole business, not Instagram our way to No.10.

The British B**r and Pub Association reports 295 pubs closed across Great Britain in the first nine months of this year — roughly eight every week. Behind those figures are livelihoods, jobs and communities losing their locals.

Every closure puts tax revenue at risk too — VAT, business rates and employment taxes.

Deliver the VAT reform hospitality has been asking for, and that you backed. Give independent businesses a realistic chance to thrive.

Because from behind this bar, there's no cavalry coming over the hill. It’s a tax monster.
