Let’s talk Pasty !

The primary difference between a Cornish and Devon pasty is the crimping method and shape: a Cornish pasty is D-shaped and side-crimped, while a Devon pasty is traditionally oval with top-crimping. Cornish pasties have Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, requiring them to be made in Cornwall with specific ingredients.

Key Differences:
Crimping & Shape: Cornish pasties are sealed along the side with a tight crimp, whereas Devon pasties are crimped along the top.
Ingredients: A certified Cornish pasty contains only beef, swede (turnip), potato, and onion. A Devon pasty may occasionally include other ingredients like carrots.
PGI Protection: The Cornish pasty (PGI) must be assembled in Cornwall. No such strict regulation exists for the Devon pasty.
History: The side-crimp on a Cornish pasty was historically a handle for tin miners to hold with dirty hands, which was then discarded.
