It started with a simple notebook left behind for guests to share a few words.

Since then, it’s become something much more.

There are pages from a couple who stayed with us straight after their wedding. Friends who loved their stay so much, they booked their next dates before they’d even packed to leave. Guests who arrived exhausted and left already talking about when they’d come back.

We’ve never encouraged anyone to write in it.

They simply wanted to leave a little piece of their stay behind.

Road closures from this Thursday :-(

Road Closure- High Street, Donaghadee ⛔️🚙

Due to resurfacing works on High Street, Donaghadee, evening road closures will be in place this week and next. The road closure is the section between New Street and Killaughey Road.

Significant disruption is expected with diversions via Six Road Ends, that will be signposted.

We have been working to try and get DfI to consider other options, (including amending the current one way) as the diversion will cause significant disruption to road users but DfI believe that this is the only way to do this:


Dates of closure are:

Thursday 10th September 7pm - Friday 11th September 6am

Monday 14th September 7pm Tuesday 15th September 6am

Tuesday 15th September 7pm - Wednesday 16th September 6am

Wednesday 16th September 7pm- Thursday 17th September 6am

Thursday 17th September 7pm - Friday 18th September 6am

Let’s be honest about who The Secret Garden is really for.

If you like sticking to the itinerary, checking out exactly when planned, and making sure your weekend is packed from morning to night… there are plenty of lovely places in Donaghadee that will happily keep your schedule on track.

This probably isn’t one of them.

Because here, slow mornings have a habit of becoming slower mornings.
One more coffee becomes two.
And “we’ll leave Sunday” somehow becomes “should we stay another night?”

But don’t say we didn’t warn you. 😉
