Some local legends talk about Greirson of Lag (a local tower house) who's home is a short distance from Greentops.
Robert Greirson was born in neighbouring Kirkcudbrighshire, he succeeded his cousin to become 1st Baronet of Lag in 1666. He was a persicutor of the Covenanters who where very prolicient locally.
He would find any local covenanters when he discovered them he would try and get an admission of guilt from them. Then afterwards he would place the individuals in a barrel with spikes, then roll the barrel down the glen between Lag tower and Glenmidge. There is supposedly a small hill on the same glen, now reputed to have a white lady ghost.
Later in life Grierson died at the age of 77 on the last day of 1733 in Dumfries (Supposedly in his home on the high street). He was buried two days later in Dunscore Old Cemetry and legend has it that the horses pulling the herse died enroute.
Another legend says a black raven followed the procession, it landed on the coffin and only left once the coffin was layed to rest. His grave can still be seen in the old Dunscore cemetary on the hill overlooking Robert Burns Ellisland Museum and Farm.
Grierson had sucha reputatuon locally that it still follows the ruined Lag tower to this day.
In recent years (1990's) when a local homeowner was redeveloping there house and discovered some clothing believed to be hidden covenanter 18th century long coat, the Curator at Dumfries Muesum was in disbelief of this discover so close to Lag's own home in Glenmidge.
