The Montgomery Canal is arguably the quietest in the country with magnificent unspoilt countryside, brimming with wonderful nature, and takes just over an hour to reach from Lyneal Wharf.

The Narrowboat Pirate recently made a video of her journey along the canal, starting at Frankton Locks from 2m:40s.

After four weeks away exploring Ireland's waterways, I'm finally ba...

Many many congratulations to Chris Symes, on the award of the British Empire Medal in the King's Birthday Honours List for his services to disabled people.

Chris has been a trustee of the Lyneal Trust for 20 years and was Chairman for 14 years, during which time the Trust made significant strides in extending and improving the facilities, under his astute and dynamic leadership.

I reached the end of the Montgomery Canal…
… but the canal kept going 😲
This week I cruise the current end of navigation, explore what’s beyond it, visit a hidden historic well and meet wonderful people along the way 😄❤️🏴‍☠️

Helen Morgan MP for North Shropshire enjoyed a trip out on the Lyneal Trust narrowboat, Shropshire Lady, to meet patients from the RJAH Spinal Injuries Ward. Also show are volunteers from both the hospital and Lyneal Trust ready for a day out on the Llangollen Canal.

The Lyneal Trust recognise that disability of all types rarely affects just one person. It shapes the experience of an entire family. Practical challenges, special needs and sheer logistics can make time away unusually difficult and the chance to stay somewhere that is both high quality and genuinely accessible can be transformative. At Lyneal Trust we recognise all of these issues in providing holiday cottages, holiday narrowboat and days out on our specially adapted boats.

A tunnel worth slowing down for. 🚤

This is the kind of Ellesmere moment visitors keep sharing, calm water, leafy light, and that quiet feeling of discovery. One perfect reminder that there’s so much more to explore here.

Have you got a favourite Ellesmere photo or memory? Post it below and help others see why this little corner of Shropshire is so special. 😊

sun is shining and what better time to take a trip on the Llangollen Canal to see the array of wildlife and especially the young water birds. Here is a link to the Canal and River Trust's guide to help identify the different types.

Baby water birds are a joyful sight in the spring and summer months - take a walk along your local canal and see which species you can spot.
