🌿 Lympstone Manor's November Charity of the Month

This November, we are delighted to once again support the National Trust as the Charity of the Month.

Dedicated to protecting and caring for some of the UK's most treasured landscapes, coastlines, historic buildings and gardens, the National Trust plays a vital role in preserving our natural and cultural heritage for future generations.

Michael Caines MBE and the team at Lympstone Manor share a commitment to protecting the beautiful landscape surrounding the Exe Estuary.

The estate and Sculpture Walk borders National Trust parkland, and through ongoing collaboration, we work together to encourage biodiversity and restore natural habitats.

Throughout November, Lympstone Manor will be raising funds to support the National Trust's important conservation work.

🌿 Sustainability at Lympstone Manor

Set within the beautiful landscape of the Exe Estuary, we recognise the importance of protecting our natural surroundings, supporting our local community and preserving the estate for future generations.

From encouraging biodiversity through wildflower planting, rewilding and our estate beehives, to welcoming sheep into the vineyard for natural grazing, sustainability is woven into the way we care for our estate.

In our kitchens, Michael Caines’ philosophy of Terroir Cuisine celebrates the exceptional seasonal produce of Devon and the South West, working closely with local farmers, fishermen and producers, while taking a thoughtful approach to reducing food waste.

We are also proud to work alongside the National Trust to help protect our neighbouring natural habitats and the precious environment of the Exe Estuary.

As a member of Relais & Châteaux, our Sustainability Plan embraces the association’s ‘In Harmony with All Life on Earth’ commitments, reflecting our belief that exceptional hospitality and environmental responsibility should go hand in hand.

A wonderful Winter Nature Walk at Lympstone Manor! 🍂

This week's Winter Nature Walk was a wonderful opportunity to explore the wildlife of our estate and the Exe Estuary.

The morning began misty and cool, but as we made our way through the grounds, the clouds lifted and the autumn sunshine made a welcome appearance.

Along the way, we spotted and heard a wonderful variety of birds, including goldcrests, treecreepers, wrens and goldfinches, before heading towards the estuary, where we were treated to a spectacular sight – thousands of waders, gulls and wildfowl gathered along the water.

From curlews and oystercatchers to Brent geese, wigeon and pintail, there was plenty to discover. Our return walk brought further sightings, including a stonechat, long-tailed t**s and a great spotted woodpecker.

An impressive 27 species in just 90 minutes!

A special thank you to local Countryside Manager, James Chubb, for hosting the walk and sharing his knowledge of the wonderful wildlife and natural habitats surrounding the estate. Thank you also to everyone who joined us for such an enjoyable morning.

We're delighted to share that we'll be scheduling more Nature Walks and Dusk Walks for 2027. More news coming soon!

Autumn adventures in East Devon 🍂

There’s something special about exploring East Devon at this time of year.

Cooler days bring crisp walks, changing colours and wonderful opportunities to experience the landscape and wildlife surrounding Lympstone Manor.

Pull on your walking boots and follow the South West Coast Path, cycle beside the Exe Estuary or spend an afternoon exploring nearby Topsham.

Head towards Budleigh Salterton and the Lower Otter wetlands, where the restored landscape of saltmarsh, mudflats and wet grassland provides a wonderful place for an autumn walk and wildlife watching. Or stay closer to home and wander through our vineyard, Sculpture Walk and grounds, looking out across the Exe Estuary as migratory and wintering birds arrive for the season.

Then, as daylight fades, return to the Manor for a warming drink, exceptional dining and the comfort of your room or suite.

Make Lympstone Manor your base for discovering East Devon this autumn 🍂

As summer draws to a close and autumn begins to colour the Estate, our bees are preparing for the quieter months ahead.

At this time of year, our beekeepers are busy checking the health and strength of the colonies, making sure each hive has sufficient stores for winter and carrying out essential seasonal care. With fewer flowers available, activity around the hives gradually slows as the bees focus on protecting their queen and conserving their precious resources.

We’re eagerly awaiting the delivery of this year’s Lympstone Manor Estate honey, produced from the nectar gathered by our bees from flowers and plants across the Estate and surrounding landscape.

A wonderful taste of the season, and another reminder of the important role our bees play in the biodiversity of Lympstone Manor.
