When the sun's out and the tide's right, Filey Beach is hard to beat.

Enough space that it never feels crowded, rock pools at Filey Brigg for the curious ones, and that long stretch of sand that somehow makes everyone walk further than they planned.

You head out for an hour and come back three hours later, slightly sunburnt, ready for a cup of tea.

When you stay with us at Shell Cottage, you’ll have access to a fully equipped kitchen - including a Ninja Air Fryer for easy family meals after a day on the beach - but if you don’t fancy cooking, Filey and the surrounding area have some brilliant places to eat out too.

Here are a few of our favourites:

🍕 Lorenzo’s
A relaxed little Italian that’s always popular with both locals and visitors. Think stone-baked pizzas, hearty pasta dishes and proper comforting food after a long coastal walk.

🥧 The Piebald Inn
A real Yorkshire favourite just a short drive away in Hunmanby. Famous for its huge homemade pies, generous portions and cosy pub atmosphere — perfect after a day exploring the coast.

☕ The Lighthouse Tea Room
Brilliant for breakfast, lunch or a proper coffee stop. Homemade cakes, hearty breakfasts and one of those friendly little places you’ll probably want to visit more than once.

We’re definitely seeing more dogs back on the beach now the weather’s picking up.

It’s one of the best parts of staying here. Long walks, plenty of space, and a very happy dog by the end of the day.

Back at the cottage, it’s easy. Space to settle, somewhere to dry off, and a comfortable spot to rest.

It feels like a proper break for them as well.
