We've had some lovely new handmade pieces arrive for the shop at Forsinard Lodge.

The little sheep made us smile immediately, but we're rather taken with the tiny bothies too — particularly all the slightly different roofs and colours.

One of the things we really enjoy about the shop is finding things that feel a little bit different, and these certainly fit the bill.

They're now unpacked and in the shop, although we're not entirely convinced all those sheep are going to stay where we put them... đŸ˜‚

Sometimes you have to race a train…

Coming back from Helmsdale we spotted the Belmond Royal Scotsman making its way north.

Which immediately resulted in: Do you think we can get back to Forsinard before it does?

There was only one way to find out.

We made it to the station just in time to watch it come through — and then caught another glimpse of it winding its way through the landscape.

One of those completely unplanned little moments that makes living up here rather wonderful.

Although I'm not sure we'll be swapping the Wild Arena minibus for the Royal Scotsman just yet…

Some mornings are all about photography.

Others are all about making sure everyone starts the day well.

It's been a busy week in the kitchen with plenty of cooked breakfasts leaving the pass. One of the nicest parts of running the lodge is seeing guests wander around, coffee in hand, already planning where they're heading for the day.

Good food, good company and another Highland adventure waiting outside.

Another beautiful delivery from Linda at Spin & Knit at 246.

One of our favourite things about the gift shop is being able to fill it with work made by talented local people.

Last week brought felted seat pad, wool balls handmade accessories and lots more.

Every purchase helps support another small Highland business.

One of the hottest days of the year recently...

The funny thing is, they sell all year round.

Sometimes it's the little jobs...

We spent some time this week tidying the flower beds outside the lodge.

The rose had become rather enthusiastic, so it's had a good haircut and we've added some new planting around it.

Most guests probably won't notice exactly what's changed...
..but hopefully they'll notice how welcoming it feels.

Christmas?

Not quite....

But a rather exciting delivery arrived this week!

The shelves are filling up with beautiful new books, Scottish folklore, local history, maps and puzzles.

We always try to stock things that people genuinely enjoy discovering rather than simply buying.

There are definitely are here we're tempted to keep ourselves...

Two lovely ladies solved the problem by having one of each.
Honestly... we can't argue with that logic.
