Weymouth’s Yuletide Weekend is taking place from 4–6 December, bringing together steampunks, pirates, elves, faeries and a little festive magic! 🎄

We’re lucky to have so many brilliant events happening right on our doorstep here on the Dorset coast.

A little closer look at our Silver award! 🥈

We’re still smiling about our Silver win at the Tourism Awards - South West, and isn’t the award itself beautiful?

Handmade in glass by Alycatglass, featuring the Dorset flag, it’s such a lovely piece of craftsmanship and something we’ll treasure for years to come.

We were also lucky enough to come home with a gorgeous hamper, generously donated by Tozers LLP and put together by Greendale Farm Shop in Devon. So many lovely treats to enjoy!

A big thank you to everyone who’s sent us such lovely messages and congratulations. Your kindness and support really do mean so much.

A wonderful £1,350 raised for The Crumbs Project at last night’s Dorset Tourism Awards!

We were delighted to donate a prize to the charity raffle and help support the fantastic work they do.

Such a lovely part of a very special evening.

We're delighted to share that, thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the charity raffle raised an incredible £1,350 for The CRUMBS Project.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets, and helped make the evening such a success. Your support will help us continue providing hospitality training and opportunities that empower adults facing barriers to build confidence, develop skills, and make steps towards independence.

🥈 WE WON SILVER!! 🥈

Well, we’re feeling rather proud of ourselves today!

Last night, Our Place in Portland was awarded SILVER for Self Catering Accommodation of the Year at the Dorset Tourism Awards 2026/27! 🎉

When we welcomed our very first guests back in October 2023, we had no idea quite where this little adventure would take us.

What started as a wish to create a lovely, welcoming place for people to stay and discover the beautiful Isle of Portland has grown into something we’re both incredibly proud of.

We’ve learnt so much along the way, made some wonderful connections with local businesses and welcomed some truly lovely guests. There’s been plenty of hard work behind the scenes too (as any holiday cottage owner will know! 😂), but moments like this make it all worthwhile.

Dan was there to collect our award while I was cheering him on from Norway, not quite how we’d planned to celebrate together! 🇳🇴🥂

A huge thank you to everyone who’s stayed with us, recommended us, supported us or simply followed our journey. It really does mean the world.

And congratulations to all the other finalists and winners. We’re delighted to be recognised alongside so many fantastic Dorset tourism businesses.

The loveliest compliment? When guests don't want to leave…

We opened our guestbook recently to find this lovely handwritten message from guests who had just enjoyed their THIRD stay at Our Place in Portland! 🥰

Knowing that people choose to come back to our little cottage means so much to us.

But reading that they felt completely at home, slept so comfortably and already want to return again? Well, that's exactly why we love doing what we do. 🩵

Dan and I put a lot of love into making OPIP feel like a home from home, so messages like this really do make our day.

Thank you to our lovely returning guests. We look forward to welcoming you back for visit number four!

💌 Postcards from Portland | No. 1

Ever wondered what these old cranes along Portland's coastline were used for? 👀

They're reminders of an industry that helped shape this extraordinary little island.

For centuries, Portland stone has been quarried here, eventually finding its way into some of Britain's most famous buildings, including St Paul's Cathedral in London.

Today, these old structures are part of Portland's fascinating industrial landscape, and little glimpses into the island's working past.

It's one of the things we love about exploring Portland. There's history around almost every corner, often hiding in plain sight.

🌊 A Little Piece of Portland…

There's something about this little island that gets under your skin.

Maybe it's the dramatic coastline, the ever-changing sea, the fascinating history or those little corners you stumble across when you're not really looking for anything in particular.

Portland isn't everyone's idea of a typical seaside destination. And perhaps that's exactly why we love it. 🩵

Over the coming weeks, we'd love to share more of the places, stories and little discoveries that make this island so special to us.

Because there's so much more to Portland than its famous lighthouse!

🍂 Who says the seaside is just for summer?🌊

There's something rather special about the Isle of Portland at this time of year.

Quieter coastal paths, dramatic waves crashing against the rocks, beautiful sunsets and plenty of fresh sea air.

And after a day exploring? There's nothing quite like returning to a cosy cottage, putting your feet up and relaxing.

Whether it's a walk around Portland Bill, discovering a lovely independent café or simply enjoying a slower pace of life, autumn and winter are wonderful times to visit this little corner of Dorset.
