Did you know that the Salpiglossis flower is thought to have been one of Tennyson's favourite flowers? Salpiglossis belongs to the Solanaceae family, closely related to petunias, and the name derives from Greek words meaning "trumpet". The colours are a bit muted but when you look closely the petals are very detailed and dainty. Make your way to the greenhouse to see them in flower. The gardens are open Tuesday to Saturday.
