With only a few more weeks of house tours left this season please go ahead and book your visit. Damp days are perfect to appreciate Farringford Estate and the Tennyson’s life here. Included in the ticket price is the fascinating Restoration Exhibition and the award winning gardens, so do allow plenty of time to explore, relax and step back in time.

House tours are open until 1st October 2026. We offer three tours each Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday which we encourage you to book before arrival as spaces are very limited. Looking at the bookings some days are already full so please do get yours booked in to avoid disappointment.

Are you looking forward to an Autumn break? At Farringford Estate we have lovely self catering cottages situated in our beautiful grounds near Freshwater. Offering the perfect environment to relax and enjoy West Wight there are lots of places to explore. With plenty of fabulous footpaths on the doorstep and highly regarded eateries within a short walk you can come and 'hide' for a little while! This is a recent review by A P who booked a house tour recently and took the time to review us on Google. Thank you so much for such detailed feedback.

"The house is amazingly and beautifully renovated and restored to what it would have been like in Tennyson's day. There's a restoration exhibition in a small building to the left as you come up to the house. This details in photos the painstaking efforts made to recreate the decor as it would have been.
We booked on a house tour (need to be booked online prior to arrival) where you wear headphones and you can wander around and listen at your own pace to a recorded information guide to each room. There are also lovely human guides in each room who are so knowledgeable and friendly, and love to be asked extra questions! If for any reason the audio doesn't agree with you, the guides are happy to tell you all about the room's history. The gardens are beautiful, even after all the dry weather the walled garden is blooming, with a wide variety of flowers, trees and shrubs, again all selected to match with Emily Tennyson's descriptions of what was there when they lived there.
There are lockers to put coats and bags in before you start the tour. Recommended as the house is very warm, especially upstairs. No food or drink is allowed in the house but this can also be left in the lockers.
Toilets are in a block just past the restoration exhibition and are very clean and well maintained. Recommend using them before your house tour!!
We will definitely go back again"

It was so lovely to see so many Garden Pass holders on Saturday evening. The clouds stayed away and it looked like you all had delicious picnics :-) The lawns were perfect for small groups and although a little chilly the light was beautiful. If you took any pictures please do share with us.

This is a reel that Angela has sent over for us to share. The garden looks so pretty in the sunset light and the moon was beautiful too. . Thank you to the team for making it all look so pretty - the lights were beautiful as it got darker and a lovely time was had by all.

We very much look forward to welcoming all those Garden Pass holders who have RSVP'd to our sunset evening this Saturday 22nd August and hope that we do not have too much cloud! . Fingers crossed the forecast does not change too much.

If you are heading out this morning you may well need to find a 'wide awake' hat like Tennyson used to wear. He was a great walker - often seen marching over the downs dressed in a dark cloak and wide brimmed hat.

You may see an example of his hat & cloak when you visit Farringford Estate on one of our pre booked tours.

House tours will re open on Tuesday 28th April 2026 Tuesday to Thursday until 1st October 2026. Gardens will re open on 14th April 2026 - Tuesday to Saturday until 31st October 2026.
