Farringford Estate Farringford is a Grade 1 Listed Building and was the main domicile residence of Alfred Lord Tennyson, Poet Laureate, from 1856 until his death in 1892.

Gardens open Tues to Sat until October 31st 2026 It continued in the possession of the Tennyson family until 1945, when it was sold to British Holiday Estates Ltd, who converted the house into a hotel. It continued as a hotel until 2010. Since then the property has undergone extensive restoration and is now re-opening to the public as an historic home.

Tomorrow (Friday) is looking a little blustery! Today the sun is shining and it is calm so do pop along to Farringford Estate to enjoy the cheerful Autumn blooms and partake in our pumpkin trail. The garden really has flourished this October - no doubt the winds will whisk across the downs tomorrow so our taller plants may take the brunt of it.

Apple Day is today! We have some lovely Apple trees at Farringford. This one is Howgate Wonder. It is a very large, late season apple. The sun has come out for a little bit, come and enjoy the gardens before the storm and see if there are any 🍎.

If you did not know we featured in Gardeners World this summer - a wet afternoon could be the perfect time for a catch up! Farringford appears about 3/4 of the way through. The Gardens have since had a second blast of blooms and we are open until 31st October Tuesday to Saturday. Come and be inspired by the garden that is only 9 years old!
