🍓🍂 Friday at Laneside — and we've been rather busy in the kitchen!

A lovely welcome to our guests arriving at Meadowsweet today, and to our guests enjoying a cosy break at Athelas with The Lórien Spa. ❤️

Meanwhile, I've been making the most of autumn's harvest, and the kitchen has been a hive of activity. 43 jars of homemade jams and chutneys! Yes, forty-three! 😂

We've got a gorgeous new jam joining the breakfast table at Meadowsweet — a delicious mixed berry creation packed with blueberries, loganberries, blackberries and blackcurrants. 🫐🍓

It'll be keeping our award-winning blackcurrant jam company, so our B&B guests have something rather lovely to spread on their morning toast!

And if you look closely, you might spot a few chillies bubbling away as they ferment for a homemade Louisiana-style hot sauce. 🌶️🔥

That one's strictly for us chilli heads, though. Some things are too fiery to inflict on unsuspecting breakfast guests! 😂

It's all part of life here at Laneside — a little homemade goodness, a lot of seasonal cooking and the pleasure of welcoming people to our beautiful corner of the North York Moors.

🌿💦 So… what exactly is The Lórien Spa?

After a whirlwind few weeks, we thought it was time to tell you a little more about our beautiful new retreat!

✨ The spa itself features 12 powerful hydrotherapy jets, comfortable headrests, underwater lighting and Bluetooth speakers for your favourite music. All waiting for you in beautifully warm 37°C water.

🌸 The setting is just as special. A private, covered timber retreat for two, with twinkling fairy lights, comfortable seating and our gorgeous blue sash window overlooking the garden and Esk Valley.

Rain, sunshine or even rainbows — it's a lovely place to watch the Yorkshire weather unfold!

❤️ And something really important to us…

We've always believed that beautiful holidays should remain affordable. Creating The Lórien Spa hasn't changed that principle.

Athelas is still available cottage-only from £110 per night when booking direct, with a three-night minimum stay.

For those wanting something extra special, we now offer spa-inclusive breaks, including our exclusive two-night spa escapes.

☀️🍂 October, you are absolutely spoiling us!

What a remarkable autumn we're having here at Laneside! The sunshine has been glorious, the air is wonderfully mild, and honestly, there have been moments when it feels more like summer than October.

It's been so lovely that I haven't even thought about putting the garden furniture away! Guests have been sitting outside, enjoying the sunshine, the birdsong and those gorgeous Esk Valley views. 🌿

🥂 And just like that… our first Lórien Spa guests are here! 🌿✨

What an absolute whirlwind the last few weeks have been.

After all the planning, building, testing, tweaking, photographing, paperwork and approximately a million tiny decisions, The Lórien Spa soft launch is officially happening! 😳

To celebrate, our first three spa bookings are getting a little bottle of Prosecco from us — and here’s the first one, ready and waiting for our very first guests. 🥂❤️

We’re calling this our soft launch because, although everything is ready, we’re still learning. We’re really eager to hear what our first guests think, what they love and whether there are any little touches we can add as we continue to perfect the experience.

It feels slightly surreal seeing people actually arrive to enjoy something we’ve spent so long creating.

The secret is officially out, and we think it’s time for a proper introduction…

Meet Lórien Spa, our beautiful new private spa retreat created exclusively for guests staying at Athelas. 🌿

When we began dreaming up this little space, we wanted it to feel as though it had always belonged here — tucked away in the garden, warm and sheltered, with twinkling lights, natural timber and that gorgeous blue window looking out towards the Esk Valley.

And, of course, it needed a name.

Athelas is the healing herb of Tolkien’s Middle-earth — associated with restoration and healing. Lórien, a place of beauty, peace and respite, seemed the perfect companion.

A little sanctuary beside Athelas. ✨

Behind that blue window is a private two-person hot tub, a cosy covered space and somewhere to switch off from the world for a while — whether the North York Moors gives you sunshine, rain, stars or one of its spectacularly dramatic skies.
