Stripped back to the bones. 🔨

This is where every renovation really starts. The walls are out, the floors are up and nothing’s hidden anymore.

Glasgow mid-terrace. 4-bed, 1-bath now, but not for long. We’re turning it into a 5-bed, 2-bath with an extra WC, designed from the ground up to perform as a short-term let.

The timber beam above the bay window had rotted through. Before it could come out, we had to hold the roof up.

Acrow props went in to take the load, the rotten beam was removed, and a steel replacement went in. All of it had to be done before the attic floor and the new bathroom pipework could go in.

Across the project that’s three new steel beams, plus the kitchen steels we moved in episode two.

Upon our first inspection there was a lot that needed fixing, cracked drainage, damp throughout the property.

As soon as we stripped it back things got worse from there!

So we created a series going through everything, follow along to find out how we managed to turn this property into a high performing short term let!

This house had moved four inches before we touched it.

On first inspection we found four problems:

1. Structural movement from an old coal mine under the street. Nothing was level.
2. Lath and plaster failing throughout. Once it goes, patching just buys you months.
3. Drains blocked front and back, with cracked pipes underneath.
4. Damp everywhere, from the wrong mortar on the sandstone and air bricks sitting at ground level.

Most people would’ve walked away. We stripped it back to brick and rebuilt it as a five-bed, two-bath plus WC.
