This Saturday is the 60th The Great Knaresborough Bed Race - don't miss one of the most unique events in Yorkshire!

Once again our sister property The Tiger Inn, Coneythorpe has sponsored the Mums of Goldsborough School (MOGS) - so the best of luck to them! Here they are in action last year 👇

(The team we sponsor - The Dads of Goldsborough School sadly didn't make this year's cut)

Princess Mary, the King's great aunt, lived at Goldsborough Hall throughout the 1920s

Did you know that one of the most important horses in racing history is buried at Goldsborough Hall?

Standing beside the front steps of the hall is our extraordinary Yorkshire champion false acacia tree, planted over 300 years ago to mark the resting place of the legendary Byerley Turk.

Owned by Captain Robert Byerley of Goldsborough Hall, the Byerley Turk became his famous war horse before retiring here to stud. Today, every thoroughbred racehorse in the world traces its bloodline back to just three founding stallions – and the Byerley Turk was the earliest of them all.

In late spring, this remarkable tree burst into cascades of fragrant white flowers, making now one of the most beautiful times to visit the gardens.

Our gardens are open on selected days throughout the season, where you can explore our historic grounds, champion trees and centuries of history, before enjoying coffee, lunch or afternoon tea at the hall.

Garden tickets can be booked online via our website https://www.goldsboroughhall.com/gardens

and more about the tree on our blog https://www.goldsboroughhall.com/blog/byerley-turk-tree

Lovely article on Princess Mary's wedding dress being restored at Harewood House and an interview with Elisabeth Basford who has written the definitive book on the Princess.

After the marriage, Princess Mary and her husband Viscount Lascelles moved into Goldsborough Hall and lived there with her family throughout the 1920s

Last week the Daily Mirror interviewed me about Princess Mary concerning a new exhibition opening soon at Harewood House where Princess Mary Princess Royal Countess of Harewood's wedding gown will be on display. The interview features today in both the print and online editions today. Of course it is a wonderful article and I love telling Princess Mary's story, however, I wish they had featured some of my stories about Princess Mary and Goldsborough Hall. If you ever want to truly experience the essence of Princess Mary, then you can not do better than visiting Goldsborough. So much of the Hall and its grounds is still as it was in the time of Princess Mary.

Please do give the article a read and let me know your thoughts.
