In summer, the rolling hills and hay meadows of the Dales are filled with beautiful birdsong, wildflowers, buzzy bees and other wildlife. ATTENTION ALL WALKERS AND COUNTRYSIDE LOVERS!

There are over 30 local walks to enjoy from your comfortable base here at Tucked Away House in Grassington, so start planning your next late spring or summer 2025 getaway, with an abundance of beautiful routes and places to explore from our doorstep, in Wharfedale, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

There really are too many local walks to mention, but you can check out the numerous routes on offer at www.walkingbritain.co.uk/Grassington-walks-and-walking. Along with the many enjoyable shorter or circular walks, there are also the more renowned routes, such as the Dales Way and Lady Anne’s Way.

The Dales Way runs for 80 miles from Ilkley in West Yorkshire to Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria, following mostly riverside paths and passing through the gentle foothills of southern Lakeland to the shores of England's grandest lake. Lady Anne’s Way is a long distance walk passing through stunning scenery on its 100 mile journey from Skipton to Penrith. PLAN A FANTASTIC SPRING BREAK IN THE YORKSHIRE DALES!

Tucked Away House is in the heart of Grassington, known for its cobbled square, quaint shops, pubs, tea rooms, art galleries and National Park Visitor Centre. A filming location for fictional ‘Darrowby’ in C5‘s ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, there are many photo opportunities. You can discover local heritage at the folk museum and enjoy great walks from the village, including the Dales Way along the River Wharfe, moorland hikes to see lead mining remains or a gentle stroll to a nearby village. Grassington also has an annual programme of events.

Spring brings the first wild flowers like lesser celandine and primroses, which can be spotted along the field banks and roadsides. There will be lots of woolly lambs in the green fields and birds will be in full song. Visit one of several beautiful woodland reserves in Wharfedale, such as Grass Wood, which is owned by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, with well-marked out paths to follow. Many of the open farms in the National Park will also be open, with lambs to be bottle fed and calves to be spotted, such as at Hesketh Farm Park in Lower Wharfedale.

The beauty spots of Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Brimham Rocks and Bolton Abbey are within easy reach; and Skipton, Ilkley and Harrogate are only a short drive away. Situated centrally in the Yorkshire Dales, Grassington is the perfect starting point to venture further afield in the National Park and explore the region’s breathtaking natural scenery, both above and below ground. There are waterfalls and underground caverns to investigate, as well as mile upon mile of lush rolling countryside with country parks, National Trust properties and much more.
