Holmhead Guest House Holmhead Guest House

Sitting on the foundations of Hadrian's Wall, formerly the site of Turret 46a, Holmhead was built as a farm in 1800 with stone from the wall. Surrounded by open fields, nestling in a sheltered valley next to the Tipalt Burn, beneath the ruins of Thirlwall Castle with stunning views of the North Pennines to the south and overlooking the Northumberland National Park to the north.

Whilst from today Covid restrictions are being lifted, case numbers, especially locally, continue to rise at an alarming rate. We therefore intend to keep all our existing measures in place, including mask wearing, social distancing and hand sanitising, for the foreseeable future. We hope our guests understand that this is for their safety and well-being as well as ours, and appreciate their cooperation in respecting these measures. Our aim, as always, is to make your stay here as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

We would like to thank all our would-be guests who had bookings with us during this lock down period for doing the right thing and staying at home, and we hope to be able to welcome you at a future date when the restrictions are lifted and it is safe to travel around again. Until such time please continue to follow the government guidelines - STAY AT HOME AND HELP TO PROTECT THE VULNERABLE AND OUR WONDERFUL NHS STAFF AND KEY WORKERS - WE APPRECIATE EVERYTHING EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU IS DOING. THANK YOU.

A few days ago, we were handed a mobile phone by a couple who had found it on the trail (Hadrian's Wall Path/Pennine Way) between Walltown and Greenhead. I notified the Roman Army Museum and the tourist information point at Walltown, just in case anyone enquired there. It is locked so we cannot access any information on it that might give a clue to its owner. If anyone thinks it might be their phone, or knows anyone who has mislaid theirs on the trail, please message us, or comment below.

Come and visit us this year, stay awhile, and take in some of these breathtaking locations .... one day is never enough ....

The Tour of Britain came through Greenhead today .... if you look closely, you might spot Sir Bradley in there somewhere...
