Firstly, there have been many dog changes: Rob, Sadie and Lenny are still going strong but we have some new additions.
Duncan, our son, has returned from 10 years in the Netherlands and has brought home Mumbo (he is coming up 3 years old). Mumbo was actually born in Haltwhistle and is a Shichonpoo (cross between Toy Poodle, Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise). He obviously picked up some Dutch over there (Mumbo not Duncan) as we recently had Dutch children staying and Mumbo was delighted to play with them!
We now have Mari working for us (one of Sarah’s daughters) and she brings Henry along – a two-year-old Jack Russell who gets on very well with the other dogs.
And recently, Mumbo’s nephew joined the gang. He is a watered down Shichonpoo and is named Rolo. He is a very different character to Mumbo (who is quiet, obedient, reticent and wary), Rolo is none of those things. He is a roly, poly bundle of mischief! His best friend is Cal, the cat, whom he greats every morning. Toby, my parent’s cat, is still around.
Sadie, top dog at 13 years, has had a fantastic summer this year. We have had cottage guests who go for runs in the morning and so Sadie has been joining them. Sometimes just returning from one to go on another! She pays for it in the evening with sore legs but, after some homeopathic treatment , she is raring to go again in the morning!
With Duncan moving home we re-structured Hawthorn back into a two-bedroom cottage so we could have the Acorn bedroom back for him along with the downstairs; which was my office. Roy’s Room has now become our office and is no longer available to book.
For those of you that remember Amy, our eldest, she and her husband have recently become parents to Theodore (Theo). Andy is looking forward to taking him out and about on the farm!
Finally, ‘An Ode to Sadie’ sung to the tune of ‘I Cain’t Say No’ from Oklahoma:
‘Sadie’s a gal who cain’t say no,
She’s in a terrible fix,
When someone says come on lets go,
Sadie just can’t resist.’
