Something new near Litton.

Littonfields Barn is joining Peak Cottage Collection, and soon you'll be able to book it direct with us. A big stone barn in the White Peak that sleeps 12, made for family gatherings, celebrations and walking groups: a beamed kitchen with one long table, a lounge with big sofas and a log burner, a games barn with a pool table and table football, and a courtyard for summer evenings. The Red Lion is on Litton's village green, and Tideswell is five minutes away.

The Monsal Trail from Bakewell: flat, traffic free, and good for bikes, buggies and dogs.

Pick it up at Bakewell's old station and follow the old railway line north past Hassop Station, over Headstone Viaduct at Monsal Head and through the lit tunnels towards Millers Dale. Bike hire is at Hassop Station if you would rather pedal.

Beech Cottage and Knowsley Cottage are both in Bakewell, so the trail is about a mile away.

Thursday is a favourite day for a team away day. Here is what a Thursday at Fairview looks like.

9am: coffee and the plan at the long table.
11am: split into small groups, one round the fire, one in the Barn's vaulted sitting room.
2pm: walk it off in Tideswell Dale.
7pm: dinner cooked by a private chef, then a proper night's sleep.

Group accommodation in Derbyshire, about 40 minutes from Sheffield and around an hour from Manchester. Midweek dates in November are still free.

Dogs Welcome!

Walk them from the gate into Hall Dale Woods, rinse off the mud at the outside dog wash and towel them dry in the stone porch. Then it's the log burner for them, and the hot tub above the Derwent valley for you.

Snowdrop sleeps eight. Two dogs come as standard, and if you'd like to bring more, just ask us before you book. The half-term weekend is still free, from the 30th of October to the 1st of November, and so is the 15th to the 26th of November.

The clocks went back last night, and the nights are drawing in.

Wander into town for a pudding from the shop on The Square, then come back to your own hot tub.

Knowsley Cottage keeps its hot tub under a timber gazebo, so it works in October drizzle as well as July sun. Inside there's a gas fire, a kitchen table big enough for the whole family, and bedrooms that look out over Bakewell's rooftops.

Two couples, with your own private space.

Dove and Manifold are two cottages for two, side by side in a private courtyard in the middle of Hartington. Have breakfast together at the tea rooms, walk down Beresford Dale beside the River Dove, and finish in the pub. Or just book one for the two of you.

There's a walk from the door at Fairview that's at its best right now.

Head down into Tideswell Dale and follow the limestone valley to Millers Dale, where the Monsal Trail crosses the old railway viaduct. In October the dale turns copper and gold, and midweek you'll have the path almost to yourself.

Then back up through the village for tea, or a pint in one of Tideswell's five pubs.

Save this for your next walk. If you'd like to start it from the door, stay at Fairview House or Fairview Barn.

Half term's nearly here, and we've still got a few gaps.

If it's just the two of you, there's The Sheepfold, a shepherd's hut above Litton with its own hot tub. It's free from the 25th to the 29th of October.

Bringing the kids and the dog? Snowdrop Cottage in Darley Dale sleeps eight, and it's free from the 30th of October to the 1st of November.

If the whole family's coming, Fairview House in Tideswell sleeps 14. It's free from the 31st of October to the 3rd of November.

When did your team last spend a day together that wasn't in a meeting room?
