Rome has a road that’s been taking people places for more than 2,300 years. And you can still walk along it today. 🇮🇹

Just beyond the bustle of the city centre lies the Appian Way, or Via Appia Antica — one of the most remarkable places to experience ancient Rome.

Built in 312 BC, it was one of the Roman Empire’s great roads, eventually connecting Rome with Brindisi on Italy’s Adriatic coast. It played an important role in military movement, travel and trade.

Today, you can walk or cycle along stretches of ancient paving, passing umbrella pines, Roman tombs, archaeological ruins and beautiful open countryside. It’s a completely different side of Rome from the busy piazzas and famous monuments - and one that makes the city’s extraordinary history feel wonderfully close.

Along the way, you can discover places such as the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, the Villa of Maxentius and the Catacombs of San Callisto. The Appian Way was also added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2024.

If you’re planning a trip to Rome, make time to explore beyond the historic centre. Sometimes the most memorable experiences are found by following a road that has been there for centuries.

What a view to wake up to this morning!

Last night the team stayed at Sopra il Lago 4, an apartment overlooking the beautiful Lake Maggiore.

In just a few weeks time, we will be announcing some super exciting changes for our company and it feels quite fitting to have come full circle back to this property this week.

Sopra il Lago 4 is the very first apartment we added to our portfolio when we launched the business - we remain so incredibly grateful to the owners at that time for literally taking a punt on us! It gave us the confidence that our vision was shared by others….

Sadly, travel doesn’t always go to plan! Early flight to Milan this morning, only to be met with crazy length queues at Milan Malpensa airport! Currently busy rearranging today’s meetings as it looks like it will take at least 2 hours to get through…. I will be rewarding myself with an extra large gelato later!

Italy has a coastline called the Gulf of Paradise. This is Camogli. 🇮🇹

And it might just be one of the prettiest seaside towns on the Italian Riviera.

Colourful houses rise straight behind the waterfront. Fishing boats bob in the little harbour. There’s a pebble beach running alongside the town and a medieval castle perched right beside the sea.

Then, just beyond Camogli, the coastline continues towards places such as San Fruttuoso, tucked into a spectacular little bay beneath the Portofino promontory.

It’s Liguria at its most irresistible.

But here’s the question: Camogli or Portofino? 👇

We unashamedly admit to living vicariously through our guests when they’re getting to enjoy Italy to the full and we are stuck in the office!

We have had the privilege of helping Victor, Lynn and their friends with a number of holidays over the years and their latest trip is making us green with envy. As well as other stops en route, they spent a week at one of the villas in Umbria and are currently in beautiful Venice.

A huge thank you to them for their continued support and trust in us. And thank you for sharing photos of your latest trip - we have loved being able to enjoy it with you, albeit remotely!

Imagine living somewhere where your neighbours showed off their wealth by building a bigger tower than yours… 😳🇮🇹

Welcome to San Gimignano.

Today it’s one of Tuscany’s most recognisable hill towns, but during the Middle Ages its skyline looked even more extraordinary.

Powerful local families built fortified tower houses as symbols of their wealth and prestige. At its height, San Gimignano had around 72 towers rising above its streets. Only 14 survive today, but they still give the town a skyline unlike almost anywhere else in Tuscany.

Add medieval streets, beautiful piazzas, vineyards and rolling Tuscan countryside and you can see why this little hilltop town is so special.
