We work with over 20 trusted Partner Hostels spread across Scotland, each offering a warm welcome in some of the country’s most spectacular regions.

Helmsdale Lodge Hostel was our very first Partner Hostel in 2006, and it’s an excellent place to stay if you’re exploring the far north-east Highlands.

Helmsdale is a small, picturesque coastal village roughly halfway between Inverness and John O’Groats in the historic county of Sutherland. It’s one of Scotland’s prettiest villages, with plenty to see and do right on its doorstep.

The village sits in a prominent position on the North Coast 500 and Land’s End to John O’Groats Route, and features a small working harbour. It’s also home to the excellent Timespan Museum, while nearby you’ll find striking coastal scenery, scenic walks, and historic sites such as Dunrobin Castle. It really is a fantastic base for exploring Scotland’s north coast.

Helmsdale Lodge Hostel is just a few minutes walk from the village centre, which has a grocery shop, bars, cafes and restaurants. The hostel is a great place to rest and recharge, with both private and dorm rooms available - all ensuite - as well as a large private garden to relax in. Perfect after a busy day exploring!
