September's a good month to be visiting Ingleton.

Once the schools go back, many of the most popular walks empty out and there's normally still a run of good weather to come. In the second half of the month, and into October, the leaves along the river start turning, making the Waterfalls Walk even more spectacular.

Choose from a three-day weekend, a four-day midweek break, or the full week if you can wangle it. Autumn availability is on the website.

We’re looking forward to the Malham Show today.

It’s always a great day with loads to see and do. There are sheep and cattle classes, working dogs, show jumping, and a lot more.

Plenty of food and drink options... From street food vendors selling wood-fired pizzas and crepes to traditional pies and fish and chips.

Events on the day include the fell races, children's sports, egg throwing, and a charity auction of local produce. Oh, and don't forget the fun dog show.

Admission is £10, and under 16s are free. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth a visit, and only a half-hour drive from us.

🍻 Five pubs (and one pop-up) in Ingleton.

The Masons Arms is the closest to Pinecroft, important on a wet night. Small outside space.

The Wheatsheaf sits in the middle of the village and does a decent Sunday lunch. Huge sunny b**r garden.

If food's the reason you're heading out, the Marton Arms toward Thornton in Lonsdale is where a lot of the locals go, and it's worth the walk. Good b**r garden.

The OPO doesn't do food, but it's a good stop for a pint after a walk or dinner. Small enclosed b**r garden at the back.

The Craven Heifer has just reopened under new management and is worth trying if you fancy something you haven't been in before. B**r garden at the front.

Then there's the Pot and Bottle, a pop-up running next to the OPO until October. One pot on the menu each night, plus a decent range of b**rs and wines. Worth a look while it's still there.

🥾 Four Dales walks you shouldn't miss.

▸ Twistleton Scars. Three miles from Pinecroft with big open views across to Ingleborough, and a fraction of the footfall of the Waterfalls Trail.

▸ Norber Erratics. From Austwick head up to a scatter of Ice Age boulders sitting on limestone plinths. Easily the strangest thing you'll walk to around here.

▸ Malham Cove from the top. Everyone photographs it from below, but it's great from the top... limestone pavement and a great view. And Harry Potter was there too!

▸ Ingleborough from Crina Bottom. The quiet approach from the Ingleton side, with a fraction of the people you'd meet coming up from Chapel-le-Dale.
