Halloween has deep roots in the Highlands.

Long before pumpkins and trick-or-treating, people marked Samhain, the ancient festival that signalled the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter.

It was a time for stories, traditions and gathering together as the seasons changed. Many of the customs we still associate with Halloween today can trace their roots back to these celebrations, including guising, the Scottish tradition of dressing up and performing a song, joke or poem in exchange for a treat.

Here at The Inverness Castle Experience, we love sharing the stories and traditions that have shaped life in the Highlands for generations. As the nights draw in and Halloween approaches, it's the perfect time to celebrate the folklore, legends and customs that continue to connect us to our past.

🎃 Happy Halloween and Samhain from all of us at The Inverness Castle Experience.

🎄🎶 Schools, we need your singers! 🎶🎄

Nothing says Christmas quite like carols echoing through the Castle.

This December, we're inviting school choirs and youth singing groups to bring some festive spirit to The Inverness Castle Experience with carol performances in the Saltire Bistro. It's a lovely opportunity for pupils to perform in a unique setting, spread a little Christmas cheer, and raise funds for their school at the same time.

Whether it's a youth choir, music group or a few enthusiastic festive young voices, we'd love to hear from you.
