Booking your next naturist vacation?

There are thousands of holiday villas available to rent around the world, so finding one that’s ideal for naturists should be easy. Right?

A word of advice from H&E’s own travel expert in the September issue: the perfect naturist villa doesn't have to be advertised that way at all. It might simply be a genuinely private property with an owner who couldn't care less whether you wear clothes around the pool.

Equally, somewhere advertised as "totally private" might be completely useless once you realise the entire village can see the sun terrace.

So don’t necessarily ask: "Is this a naturist villa?" A much simpler question is: “Can I relax here, be comfortably naked, and enjoy my holiday without bothering anybody else or worrying about who might be watching me?”

For years, we’ve been told that children seeing their parents naked is somehow harmful.

But is that really supported by the evidence? Research going back decades hasn’t found a clear link between ordinary, non-sexual family nudity and psychological harm.

In fact, some studies suggest it may help children develop a more relaxed and positive attitude towards their bodies: especially in a family-friendly naturist setting.

That doesn’t mean there are no boundaries - sexualised behaviour is a completely different matter.

So perhaps the bigger question is: have we been worrying about something that isn’t actually a problem?

Cap D’Agde naturist village is 70 this year - and continues to divide opinion.

Over the years, much has been reported about the place - some positive, some negative, some shocked, and some misunderstood.

Is it “true” naturism? Sin City personified? Unapologetically hedonistic and liberating? Or simply somewhere that offers great naturist holidays with a laissez-faire approach?

In September’s H&E, regular visitor Charis Brundle suggests that perhaps the thing to do is go and judge for yourselves. You might well be pleasantly surprised, she maintains.

The beaches. The accommodation. The nightlife. The type of visitors, and what they do and don’t get up to. The best time of year to go. Even an update on the current construction work. Charis gives us her forthright views on the Cap D’Agde vibe.

The power of love…

It’s a long way from Siberia to Florida. And for photographer Francesca Bliss, the journey has been about far more than mere geography.

Hers is a fascinating story: after years of self-doubt, Francesca finally learned to love herself. And discovered a way of passing on her experience to other self-doubters, largely through the medium of n**e photography.

“Photography is now more than a job for me,” she explains. “It is my passion, my purpose, my path in life.”

And her naturism plays a large part of that. “Because when you are somewhere everyone is n**e, you see all different shapes and sizes, and realise there's beauty in every single one."

Nick and Lins from Naked Wanderings describe themselves as naturists who love to travel. Or travellers who love to be naked.

Either way, since 2017, they have been continuously roaming the world in search of places where clothes are just an option. And for most of that time, they’ve also been contributing an exclusive monthly column to H&E magazine.

For H&E, they have mused on topics as diverse as making naturism safer for women, what exactly constitutes a n**e beach, carbon footprints, naturist villages, and what does ‘clothing-optional’ actually mean in practice.

And all of that is in between their entertaining and informative posts on their own website and social media pages on just about every naturist destination you can think of. And several you might not have done yet.

It’s a wide and wonderful naturist world. And Nick and Lins have visited most of it...
