We've just introduced some new hens, as some of our older girls have retired from laying eggs. Eggs are nearly always availble for our cottage guests to buy and those staying five nights or longer receive a complimentary box when they arrive. In Spring, we often have duck and goose eggs available as well.

I've been tidying up the long grass around the Christmas trees we have planted for future Fornside Christmases. They are slowly growing!

Welcome to Fornside Farm! 🌿
Tucked away in beautiful St John's-in-the-Vale, near Keswick, our four cosy holiday cottages sit amongst the fields and fells of a traditional Lake District hill farm.
We've lovingly refurbished the cottages, converted from old stone barns, to create comfortable, welcoming places to stay, whether you're here for big mountain adventures, gentler walks or simply a chance to slow down.
There's plenty to discover without leaving the farm: our own walking trail, free-range hens, sheep, seasonal pigs, wonderful wildlife and, chances are, a glimpse of our resident red squirrels.
We're proud to have achieved Green Tourism Gold, recognising our efforts to care for this special place and reduce our environmental impact.
We're Joanna and Matt, and we love sharing our little corner of the Lakes with our guests.

A little hedgelaying again at Fornside this week! I was lucky enough to have some help and guidance from someone who really knows his hedge management. The second photo is my own handiwork... let's just say that I am very much an apprentice!

Hedgelaying is a wonderful countryside management skill, helping to keep hedgerows healthy, thick and full of life whilst providing valuable shelter and habitat for wildlife.

I will keep practicing over the winter months!
