🗞️ STATEMENT FROM THE SWAN HOTEL 🗞️
This morning, we held our Monthly Community Litter Pick & Weeding Session, doing our bit to make our town look clean, welcoming and something we can all be proud of — especially with the Walking Festival fast approaching.
Firstly, we want to say a huge THANK YOU to the SIX volunteers who gave up their Sunday morning to join us today. Your time, hard work and dedication genuinely mean the world to us, and we are incredibly grateful. ❤️
Sadly, we have made the difficult decision that this morning’s community clean-up will be our last.
This isn’t a decision we have taken lightly. However, with so few volunteers coming forward each month, we simply don’t feel it is fair to keep relying on the same small group of people to get up early on a Sunday morning and give their time to help look after our town.
Over the past few months, we’ve received lots of lovely comments and praise from local people, which we have really appreciated. Unfortunately, we have also had abuse directed towards us while carrying out the clean-ups, which has been incredibly disappointing.
From the beginning, we have always said that together, we can make our town look great again. But the reality is that a handful of people working for a few hours once a month cannot do it alone. So next time when someone says the town is looking a little scruffy - all we’ll say is, “WE TRIED!”
We are sad that it has come to this, because we started these sessions for one simple reason: we care about our town and wanted to make a positive difference.
To every single person who has joined us over the past few months, whether it was once or every month — THANK YOU. Your support, time and community spirit have never gone unnoticed.
And an extra special thank you to the six people who stood alongside us this morning. 💚
