The Legend of the Witch's Crack...

With Halloween upon us, we thought we'd share one of the more mysterious stories from right here in Glen Clova!

High above the glen, near Loch Brandy, lies a feature known as the Witch's Crack.

Local folklore tells of a time when witches were believed to gather in the hills above Clova, with Loch Brandy said to be one of their favourite haunts.

But the story takes a darker turn...

Legend has it that a witch placed a curse upon the glen, declaring that one day the waters of Loch Brandy would burst down the hillside and flood Clova below.

The Witch's Crack is said to grow a little wider every year, leaving generations to wonder whether the old warning might one day come true.

Of course, it's all part of the folklore that makes the Angus Glens such a fascinating place.

But next time you're looking up towards Loch Brandy, perhaps you'll remember the tale of the Witch's Crack!

You've probably heard us mention Corrie Fee plenty of times.

But what actually is a corrie?

It's a huge bowl-shaped hollow in the mountains, carved out by glaciers thousands of years ago.

Corrie Fee is one of Scotland's finest examples — and it's only a short drive further up the glen from us.

Next time you're staying at Clova, it's well worth seeing for yourself.

Things nobody tells you before visiting Glen Clova:

You will stop the car to take a photo on the way up.

You will see more pheasants than you expected.

You will underestimate at least one walk.

And you'll probably start checking dates for your next visit before you've actually left.

However, the person who booked the lodge will usually have a very strong opinion on the matter.

A proper Glen Clova morning!

A hard frost across the glen, crisp cold air and the first golden light catching the tops of the hills.

The fields are sparkling white, the hills are looking bonnie, and there's that wonderful stillness you only get on a cold Highland morning.

A wee reminder of just how special Clova is at this time of year.
