Soaking up the sunshine by the shores of the Isle of Skye, looking across to the stunning Red Cuillin.

The Red Cuillin have a story written in both stone and legend. Unlike their dramatic black neighbours, these hills are older and formed from granite deep within the earth over 60 million years ago, shaped by time, ice and Atlantic weather. Their softer, reddish tones glow beautifully at sunrise and sunset — which is how they earned their name.

In local folklore, the Cuillin are tied to the warrior hero Cú Chulainn, who is said to have trained on Skye under the warrior woman Scáthach. The mountains have long been seen as a place of challenge, strength and wild beauty — a landscape that feels both ancient and alive.

If you’re staying near Kyleakin, take a hike from Old Kyle Farm.

A perfect gentle walk with a legendary backdrop. 😉

🏴 Isle of Skye – Don’t Miss The Old Man of Storr & The Quiraing 🌿⛰️

If you’re visiting Skye, these two places are an absolute must-see.

📍 The Old Man of Storr
One of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks. The dramatic rock pinnacles rising above the Sound of Raasay look almost otherworldly. The hike up is short but steep — and every step is worth it. On a clear day, the views stretch for miles. Even in misty weather, it feels magical and mysterious.

📍 The Quiraing
Raw, wild, and breathtakingly beautiful. Rolling green hills, dramatic cliffs, hidden lochs, and winding trails that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a fantasy movie. The landscape changes with the light — sunshine, clouds, or moody skies all give it a completely different vibe.

Both walks are unforgettable and truly capture the rugged beauty of Skye.
Make sure they’re at the top of your itinerary. You won’t regret it 💚
