Arran has plenty of places to stay — hotels, B&Bs, self-catering cottages, holiday lets, caravans, lodges and more.

We still have space for tents and campervans on the festival ground, so you can stay right in the heart of the festival atmosphere. On-site spaces are already filling much quicker than they did last year, so if that’s your plan, it’s worth securing your space early.

Arran has been treated to an amazing array of visiting marine wildlife this summer .

‘Cetacean soup’ as whale and dolphin sightings surge around Arran

Scottish waters around Arran have been described as “cetacean soup” after an unusually busy week of whale and dolphin sightings.

The National Trust for Scotland’s Arran Ranger Service said visitors had reported sightings of humpback whales, minke whales and common dolphins in the Kilbrannan Sound and Firth of Clyde.

Ferry passengers have also been treated to encounters more commonly associated with dedicated whale-watching trips, with at least two humpback whales reportedly feeding off Arran.

Rangers believe an abundance of food could be attracting the marine mammals to the area. Large gatherings of gulls have been observed off Pirnmill, while fish have been seen jumping close to shore and copepods have been spotted around Lochranza.

The rangers suggested warmer sea temperatures this summer may have contributed to increased plankton, providing food for copepods. Small fish then feed on the copepods, while larger shoals, including mackerel, provide prey for whales and dolphins.

Humpback whales require substantial quantities of food, making the presence of concentrated fish and plankton particularly significant.

Calmer sea conditions have also helped produce spectacular encounters, including reports of breaching whales and leaping dolphins.

The Arran Ranger Service, which helps care for the natural environment around Brodick Country Park and Goatfell, said one of the most memorable features had been hearing whales blow across the water.

The team shared photographs of the wildlife, joking that a CalMac ferry had effectively become a whale-watching vessel.

This was the nicest Bed and Breakfast we have ever stayed at, and we travel a lot. The vegan breakfasts were from a 5-star restaurant: delicious, enormous, creative, and served with love. Everything was done with much thoughtfulness, from the tasty breakfast menu choices, to the room snacks, the six! bed pillows, and the many details, including the great vegan hair products in the shower/bath. The location and view are stunning. The hosts even supply a list of vegan-friendly restaurants in the area, told us where we could hear live music. It was quite an experience! We loved every minute and cannot recommend this B&B enough, and the lovely hosts, Jules and Carol.
Tips for other travellers
Order the vegan burger at restaurant the Drift Inn, on the seaside, just three minutes to the left of the B&B. Reserve your restaurant seats at the same time as you reserve your room. When we arrived, they said they were fully booked until September!! But we managed to get a seat at 17:00. The pizza restaurant located at the Bay Hotel on the other end of the street, also requires advance bookings. If you are traveling by motorcycle, and taking the small ferry from the northern Lochranza harbour to Claonaig, if the road to Oban is closed, DO NOT take the detour road! It was a one-lane, poorly-paved, endless three-hour nightmare"

This was indeed excellent in every way with lots of great touches that show that they really care about those who stay here. The breakfast on all three mornings was way ahead of anything we have ever experienced - delicious, tasty, abundant and they provide so many options. Little touches like treats ion the bedside table, very relevant books/guides to browse in the guest dining room. The location is brilliant. -right ion the heart of a very lively village - but equally calm and restful - even in the busiest season. We recommend Stonewater highly and thank Carole and Jules for their amazing creation.
Tips for other travellers
A good selection of local small restaurants, though advise booking especially in busy season. Lamlash, where Stonewater is based, is a good central point for access the many possibilities along the East coast of the Isle of Arran."
