💜 Tonight, The White Swan is glowing purple in loving memory of Wendy. 💜

When Wendy’s daughter, Chrissy, asked people to choose purple in memory of her mum, we wanted to show our love and support in our own little way.

So tonight, we’ve turned The White Swan purple. 💜

Because being part of a community isn’t just about celebrating the happy times together. It’s about being there for one another during the difficult ones too.

Our thoughts are with Chrissy, her family and everyone who knew and loved Wendy.

🥒 GHERKINS FOR EVERYONE! 🥒

We haven’t released our new Autumn/Winter menu yet, but following today’s Budget, we’re seriously considering adding gherkins to everything! 🤣

Apparently, they’re one of the few things getting cheaper!

We don’t normally get political at The White Swan, but sometimes you just have to say something.

And quite frankly, this Budget hasn’t done us many favours.

We WANT to employ local kids, give them their first job, their first wage packet, a bit of independence and a chance to learn what working life is all about.

We WANT to pay our staff fairly, keep our prices affordable and continue being part of our community.

But with wages, employers’ NI, pensions, business rates and everything else piling up, where exactly is all this extra money supposed to come from?

We can’t pay our staff in gherkins, and we certainly can’t pay the electricity bill with them! 🥒

Yes, a bit of business rates relief is welcome, but giving with one hand while taking with the other isn’t really helping.

We’re not asking for handouts or miracles. Just a fighting chance to keep independent pubs alive.

Anyway, if anyone fancies a career change, we’re considering opening a gherkin farm.

Apparently, there’s more of a future in pickles than pints! 🥒🤣

Just three shadowy figures, standing silently beneath their pointed hats… watching the world go by.

Nobody saw them arrive.

Nobody knows what they’ve come for.

But with Halloween approaching, we suspect they’re not here for a quiet half of bitter… 🔮

The coven is gathering. The spells are brewing. And the witching hour is almost upon us…

🧶❤️ KNIT & NATTER – TODAY AT THE WHITE SWAN!

Can’t knit? Can’t crochet? Doesn’t matter one bit – you’re still welcome! ❤️

For five years, our lovely Julia Briggs has been bringing people of all ages together every Wednesday afternoon for knitting, crocheting, laughter and a good old-fashioned natter!

Over the years, people have come and gone, dipped in and out, made new friends and popped back whenever life allows. And that’s exactly how it should be.

❤️ It’s completely FREE, ALL AGES are welcome, and there’s no membership, no commitment and absolutely no pressure to come every week!

Never picked up a pair of knitting needles? There are plenty of lovely ladies (and the occasional gent!) happy to show you how.

Not interested in knitting? That’s fine too! Come for a cuppa, a cheeky afternoon tipple, a bite to eat or simply a bit of company.

Get right into the thick of things, sit quietly on the sidelines, join in when you fancy or just enjoy being around other people.

You don’t have to be the life and soul of the party to be part of it. ❤️

And if you’d love to come but feel a little nervous about walking in on your own, please drop us a message.

We’ll happily arrange for someone to meet you outside and walk in with you. Sometimes a friendly face makes all the difference.

Well, we're already organising a Christmas party for dogs, and now Mackenzie's decided we're having a children's Halloween disco!

I KNEW there was something I forgot to tell her when she came up with the idea. 🤣🤣

So here we go… a function room full of little monsters, loud music, fancy dress and children who've probably had more sugar than is medically advisable.

🎄❤️ A LITTLE CHRISTMAS MAGIC, A LOT OF COMMUNITY LOVE…

There’s something rather special about Christmas in Yeadon. The familiar faces, the little traditions, the memories we make and the people who make our community feel like home.

We weren’t planning to share this just yet, but we’ve just had some wonderful news, and it’s far too special to keep to ourselves! ❤️

And it comes in the form of a little early Christmas magic from the wonderful Julia Briggs, the Queen of Yeadon! 🎄

With her Operation Light Up Yeadon gathering pace, we’ve just been told that, thanks to Julia’s help, we’ve secured a magnificent 15ft Christmas tree from Stockeld Park!

It will stand proudly on the cobbles outside The White Swan, but this tree will be a little different.

❤️ OUR COMMUNITY REMEMBRANCE TREE ❤️

Because amongst all the happiness and excitement of Christmas, there are always people we wish could be sharing it with us.

A familiar laugh. A favourite story. Someone who always had a seat at the table.

From Friday 20th November, we’d love everyone in our community to help us fill this tree with love and memories.

We’ll provide FREE hearts and pens inside The White Swan. Simply pop in, write a name, a memory or a message to someone you love and miss, then hang your heart on our tree.

No need to buy anything. No need to be a customer. This tree is for EVERYONE. ❤️

We’ll be hanging a heart ourselves, remembering the friends, neighbours and familiar faces who have been part of The White Swan’s story over the years.

🎺 AND A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS TRADITION…

On Friday 18th December from 7pm, Guiseley Brass Band will return for what has become a much-loved Christmas tradition at The White Swan.

During Silent Night, we’ll light one special candle in memory of everyone represented on our tree.

And when the carols have finished and everyone has gone home, that little light will remain shining in our window until we close on Christmas Day.

For every person whose name hangs on our tree. For every memory. For every love that never leaves us.

🚨🕷️ CRITICAL SECURITY ALERT AT THE WHITE SWAN!

Our decking security camera sent us a CRITICAL ALERT.

Naturally, we checked the footage expecting something serious…

Turns out, an eight-legged intruder had decided to make its big-screen debut. 😂

Apparently, our security system considers a spider wandering past the camera a matter of national emergency.

With Halloween just around the corner, we’re starting to wonder whether the decorations are putting themselves up this year! 👻🕸️

No damage reported. No arrests made. Suspect still at large.

Jan is on tenterhooks. She’s requested danger money, immediate annual leave and confirmation that the suspect has been barred for life. 😂

CCTV evidence is conclusive, although given our recent experience with Cargate, we’re not entirely sure that’ll help.

🎄❤️ CHRISTMAS DAY AT THE WHITE SWAN ❤️🎄

We know, we know… it’s only October! 🤣🎅 But we’ve already had so many enquiries about Christmas Day that we thought we’d better share our plans!

Honestly, we’ve had enough interest to fill the pub several times over, and knowing that so many of you would choose to spend Christmas with us really does mean the world. ❤️

Christmas Day – 12 noon until 2pm, drinks only. 🍻🥂

No Christmas dinners this year, just a couple of lovely hours to share a festive drink, catch up with friends, exchange a few hugs and wish each other a Merry Christmas.

Because The White Swan has never just been about pulling pints or serving meals.

We’re not just a pub. We’re YOUR community hub. ❤️

And what makes that so special is YOU.

The friendships, the laughter, the celebrations, the kindness and the way our little community comes together. We’ve shared so many wonderful moments over the years, and we’re incredibly lucky to have so many of you as part of our lives.

Throughout December, we’ll be doing what we love most — bringing people together, making memories and sharing a little Christmas magic. 🎄

But Christmas Day is also that one precious opportunity for our hardworking team to put their feet up and enjoy some proper time with their own families.

And after the year we’ve had, family time feels more precious than ever. ❤️

Hopefully, by Christmas, Cargate will be nothing more than a distant memory, and the only Greek things on our table will be a slice of baklava and a glass of ouzo! 🇬🇷🥃🤣

So come and raise a glass with us between 12 and 2 before we head home to our own families.

We might be the ones who open the doors every day, but it’s all of you who fill The White Swan with warmth, laughter and friendship. And that’s what makes it so special. ❤️
