🦢 Another cygnet spreads his wings…

Today we say goodbye to Max as he leaves The White Swan to take up a football scholarship with Huddersfield Town.

For nearly two years, Max has been part of our kitchen team and a much-loved member of the Swan family.

One of the best things about a community pub is watching people grow. We’ve seen Max develop in confidence, learn new skills, build friendships and work hard towards his goals.

It doesn’t seem five minutes since we were celebrating his 18th birthday, and now we’re wishing him luck as he takes the next exciting step in a journey he’s earned through dedication and determination.

A football scholarship with a club like Huddersfield Town is a fantastic achievement, and we couldn’t be prouder. Not only because of this opportunity, but because of the young man Max has become along the way.

While many people pass through our doors, some leave a lasting impression. Max is certainly one of them.

Thank you for your hard work, commitment and positivity over the last two years. You’ve been a valued part of our team and will always be part of the White Swan story.

As you begin this new chapter, know that everyone here is behind you. Wherever football takes you, there will always be a warm welcome, familiar faces and a seat waiting for you at The White Swan.

Today is about celebrating the people who help shape our lives.

The dads, grandads, stepdads and those who stepped up when it mattered most.

The people who cheered us on, picked us up when we stumbled, stood beside us when we needed them, and helped make us who we are today.

Father’s Day means something different to everyone, but at its heart it’s about appreciating the people who have shown us love, support and guidance, often without ever asking for anything in return.

Whether you’re spending today around the table with family, raising a glass, sharing a meal, making memories, or simply taking a moment to appreciate someone special, we hope your day is filled with love, laughter and togetherness.

What a lovely weekend we’ve had, filled with celebrations, memories and special moments.

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who chose to spend those moments with us. We never take for granted that you’ve trusted us to be part of such important occasions.

Friday saw us host both a wedding vow renewal party and a celebration of life – two very different occasions, each equally important and memorable for those involved.

Saturday brought a first birthday party in the afternoon, followed by a seamless turnaround into a stunning 60th birthday celebration in the evening, complete with a quick setup by our resident DJ.

In The Snug, we welcomed the boys of YBAFC for their presentation afternoon, celebrating another successful football season.

Then it was all change again on Sunday as we transformed our spaces ready for a busy Sunday lunch service.

What many people don’t see is the incredible effort that goes on behind the scenes. Our team turn rooms around in a matter of hours, adapting each space to suit the occasion, while our cleaners work their magic every morning so that you’d never know there had been a party there the night before.

And it’s not just our function spaces that need attention. Alongside all of this, our seven letting rooms are occupied, serviced and cleaned daily, helping us welcome guests visiting family, attending events, travelling for work or catching early flights from the airport.

A huge thank you to our chefs and kitchen team too, who continually deliver fantastic food for every type of event whilst catering for a wide range of dietary requirements without ever compromising on quality.

We’re incredibly proud of and everything they do to help create special memories for our guests. Thank you to every member of the team for another fantastic weekend.

We’re excited to give away some England World Cup shirts, thanks to the kindness of one of our suppliers!

We have three shirts to give away – two home shirts and one away shirt.

For each of the next three England World Cup match days, every completed transaction at the bar gives you one entry into the draw. Just write your name on an entry slip and put it in the hat.

You can enter more than once, so the more completed transactions you make, the more chances you have to win!

At the end of each England match, we’ll pick one name at random. If it’s yours, you’ll win an England shirt.

No catches. No complicated rules. Just enjoy the game and the atmosphere, and you might go home with a new England shirt.
