We’re seriously considering removing all 5 of our properties from Airbnb ❌ Here’s why 👇
💷 The fees
Third parties take around 22% commission on every booking we receive. Those fees get passed on to you, so guests booking through OTAs like Airbnb and Booking.con pay more.
You also can’t use your Blue Light Card or loyalty discounts on those platforms.
But the fees aren’t even the main reason.
🚨 Airbnb’s new host policies
Airbnb has announced changes to rental agreements, guest ID verification, checkout tasks and house rules. Hosts can now only enforce Airbnb’s own conditions. We can no longer ask guests to do simple things like load the dishwasher or take out the rubbish, limit daytime visitors, or restrict the type of pets allowed.
We don’t expect guests to do chores. We just ask you to leave the property as you found it. Most guests are brilliant and respectful, but we’ve had our share of the other kind, and these rules leave us with less control over the condition our cleaners find at checkout.
When platforms push up fees and tie hosts’ hands, guests end up footing the bill.
💡What can you do?
Book direct whenever you can:
1️⃣ Find a place you like on Airbnb or Booking.con
2️⃣ Note the property or company name (e.g. Tattershall Lakes Mini Breaks)
3️⃣ Google it and look for their own website
4️⃣ Compare the price, including cleaning fees and other charges and you’ll see it’s significantly cheaper to book direct with us.
Booking direct with the genuine owner or manager (like us 😉) means no platform fees. With us, you could save up to 27% (when also using a promo code/loyalty discount or BLC discount) ✅
We all have decisions to make.
As travellers, we can be smarter about where we book 🧠
As hosts, we have to ask whether these platforms are still worth the fees, the restrictions and the audience they attract 🤔
👉 Please share this with anyone who travels or books holiday rentals. They deserve to know there’s a better, more affordable way to book!
