We're back! Working alongside Wilder Minds CIC, there's a new project starting on site. The Root Troop is aimed at adults looking to develop their outdoor skills, meet likeminded folks, and spend time in nature. We start on the 19th June and have limited places, so please book soon to avoid disappointment!

🧚‍♂️Root Troop🧚‍♂️(Age 18+)
Basically... scouts for adults!!

If you missed the opportunity of joining scouts as a child or would just like to relive the experience, come along to our sessions! With a mixture of on site activities and trips out and about, there's something for everyone!

🧚‍♀️Wild Workers🧚‍♀(Age 11+)
Perfect for home educators, you'll get involved in all sorts of tasks including planning, preparing and planting the veg patch! If you've ever wondered what it's like to have an allotment or small holding, now is your opportunity to find out!

Thank you to everyone who spent time with us last year 💚 apologies for the silence, I’ve been busy with my new role at Wilder Minds CIC but we will be back for some camping this year! Due to the weather we’ve had and our proximity to the Trent we are currently still a bit boggy and I’ll be pushing back our camping season to give the land time to recover. We’ll also be back to chicken breeding this year so watch this space! Here’s our new addition from late last year, Russell Crowe 🐓

Another find from our Root Troop session - we found a few of these resourceful fellas who had set up homes in the frayed ends of electric fencing. You can just about make out a spider friend tucked away in his little web cave!

First night of The Root Troop was extremely fun(ghi) - we found lots of different mushrooms and managed to identify quite a few thanks to .mushroom.id including the big ol’ parasols.

As always, don’t eat what you forage unless you’ve got positive identification, because mushrooms are tricky fellas!

New addition to the home flock - everyone say hi to Russel Crowe 🐓 a couple of years ago we set out starting to breed chickens, looking to build sturdy purebreeds and hybrids. It went on pause with the subsequent bird flu lockdowns but after tweaking our set ups at the field and at home, we feel better placed to come back to breeding. The addition of this lovely black copper maran boy will see us able to produce a lovely mix of birds.

✨NEW START DATE✨ Due to a couple of minor issues we postponed the start of The Root Troop whilst we sorted some bits out, which is great news for folks who missed signing up! Head over to the Wilder Minds CIC website to book on for our 18+ outdoor skills group 🏕️

You’d be forgiven for thinking this was a kind of moss or a bundle of furry caterpillars. It’s actually supposed to be a group of rosehips - this plant nicely demonstrated fasciation for us! Fasciation is caused by a genetic mutation or disruption that encourages plants to create more of a particular structure than they usually would, and is mostly seen in stems and flowers. This was the only branch I could see in this section of hedgerow displaying a fuzzhip.

Thank you for everyone who came to our last session of Wilder Camp Outs and the open weekend! We had a brilliant time cooking on the campfire, foraging, wood whittling and generally relaxing in the outdoors. We even made some small friends!

A big shoutout to Wilder Minds CIC for working with us to put together creative and interesting projects, and many thanks to for funding this project and helping folks experience new things 💚
