For exclusive hire you can self cater, or let us cater for you to make your stay stress free & relaxing. We are situated in a rural setting with lovely views, on the edge of the Hafren Forest within the Cambrian Mountains. We are a 10 minute drive from the stunning Llyn Clywedog, and blessed with amazing dark skies. Each bedroom has an allocated shower. Our communal lounge is there for your use, and in the winter you can enjoy the warmth from our large wood burner. We provide a smart TV, DVD's, Fibre Wifi and plenty of reading material. Our dining room has a super view, and is light and airy for you to enjoy your meals. We are Dog friendly, but please discuss at the time of booking, as we may not suit all dog owners needs, but are more than happy to discuss.

No matter the weather I was going to be there☔🍫

Blimey, the weather certainly wasn’t playing ball today, but that didn’t stop the wonderful stallholders at the Chocolate Festival of Wales in Llanidloes from showing off their lovely Welsh produce.

And my word, the smell when you walked in was unbelievable! If you love chocolate, it was a dangerous place to be. 💕

Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay in town for too long as I had to drop off our raffle prize for the Llyn Clywedog Trout Fishery end-of-season bash.

I couldn’t resist popping a Coco Pzazz chocolate bar into the prize, along with a lovely jar of jam and marmalade from Radnor Preserves. A little selection of Welsh goodies to enjoy.

Then it was a dash back to Hafren Forest Hideaway as our guests were arriving a little earlier than usual today, hoping to beat the worst of the weather that’s heading our way this evening.

Never a dull moment running a small hospitality business here in Mid Wales!

But today reminded me just how important it is to support our local businesses. As a small business ourselves, we know how much hard work goes into what people do, whether that’s making chocolate, producing delicious preserves, running local events or welcoming visitors to this beautiful part of Wales, it takes time and dedication, and it’s important we appreciate those small independent businesses.

And we are so lucky to have such wonderful producers and businesses here on our doorstep.
So, if you’re visiting Llanidloes or staying with us at Hafren Forest Hideaway, do take a little time to explore our local shops, producers and events. There are some real gems to discover, and every bit of support makes a difference. ❤️

Who says you need summer sunshine to enjoy a few days away? 🍂🔥

There’s something rather special about this time of year here at Hafren Forest Hideaway.

The evenings are drawing in, there’s a chill in the air, and Hafren Forest is right on our doorstep, ready to be explored whatever the weather brings.

Imagine spending your days out walking through the woodland, exploring the Cambrian Mountains, mountain biking, or simply getting some fresh air and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Then coming back, warming up, enjoying a cuppa and a slice of cake, sharing a lovely meal and settling in for an evening of good conversation and laughter.

And if the skies are clear, step outside after dark. We’re lucky to have some wonderful dark skies here in Mid Wales, and there’s something quite magical about looking up at the stars away from the bright lights of towns and cities.

Of course, the weather doesn’t always play ball. There might be rain, wind and muddy paths, but that’s all part of being outdoors, isn’t it? And sometimes those are the days when coming back inside feels even better.

We love welcoming groups of friends, walkers, mountain bikers, anglers and people who simply enjoy being outdoors. You don’t always need a big adventure planned. Sometimes it’s just about getting everyone together, having time to catch up properly and enjoying a few days somewhere different.

And with Christmas creeping closer, perhaps a few days away with friends before the festive madness begins sounds rather appealing?

A kitchen full of fruit, a good friend, and a very important reason to make jam 🧑‍🍳

Ever wondered what happens when you bring a whole lot of locally picked fruit into the Hafren Forest Hideaway kitchen? 😂 And if the last clip is anything to go by, we were rather pleased with our morning’s work!

This morning I spent time with a good friend, Mel, making jam, and what a lovely morning it was.
As we are hoping to sell the jam at local events to raise funds for a very important cause, it needed to be made in a kitchen approved by Environmental Health. Well, there was only one place for it, wasn’t there? Hafren Forest Hideaway!

All the fruit in this wonderful jam has been donated from our local area. We had tayberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, bilberries and gooseberries, all picked locally with love, which makes it even more special.

The smell filling the kitchen was absolutely amazing, and there’s something rather lovely about turning locally grown fruit into something that can be shared and enjoyed.

Working alongside Mel was a real treat. There was plenty of chatting, laughing and, of course, keeping an eye on the jam, all while knowing we are doing something that will hopefully make a difference to a cause close to our hearts.

It’s funny how some of the nicest moments are the simple ones, spending time with good people, using what we have around us and working together towards something worthwhile.
All that needs to happen now are the labels!

A rare night out for us, and what a lovely evening it was! ❤️

If you follow us, you will know that Hiraeth Llanidloes Ltd is one of our favourite places to eat. We normally pop in for breakfast or lunch, but last night the fabulous team invited us along to celebrate the local hospitality businesses in Llanidloes and the surrounding area.

It was such an enjoyable evening, not just because the food was scrummy and the service, as always, wonderful, but because we got to spend time with some lovely local businesses too.

Lovely to catch up with Meadow Springs Reactive Dog Friendly Cabin, Mandy Meech and Welsh Mountain C***r

And as for photos? Well, Darren and I managed to take just one between us. Shame on us! 😂 I think we were too busy enjoying ourselves.

You know that feeling when something just isn’t quite right, and you can’t stop worrying about it?
That’s where we have been with Bryn.

We noticed he had a funny gait and would occasionally have a little skip in his run, and when it comes to your dog, you can’t help but worry. So off we went to Cambridgeshire to see an orthopaedic specialist.

And because we had the campervan, we decided to make a little adventure of it, and stay a couple of nights.

Bryn had his CT scan and ultrasound, and thankfully we were given the all clear. What a relief! ❤️

We stayed the night to enable Bryn to recover from his day at the vets.

On our way home we took a slight detour to visit Bryns favourite beach, Aberdyfi.

And honestly, could you ask for anything more?
Fish and chips, a sandy beach, a beautiful sunset and Bryn having a fantastic time running around and enjoying himself.

We love being away in the van, seeing new places and having little adventures, but there really is no place like home.

And coming back to Hafren Forest Hideaway, the views, the peace, the forest and our little corner of Mid Wales… well, it just feels very special. ❤️

Sometimes life throws a bit of worry your way, and sometimes you just need to get through it, breathe a sigh of relief and appreciate the simple things.

And today, we are very happy to be home.

🍂 You don’t always need an adventure. Sometimes, the view is enough.
💬 So tell us... if you had a day here with absolutely nothing you had to do, would you head out exploring or stay put and enjoy the view?
This morning, while I was busy preparing breakfast for our guests, I stepped outside and was greeted by one of those beautiful Mid Wales autumn mornings that makes you stop for a moment.
A light frost on the ground, a sky with the most wonderful red tinge and that beautiful early morning light across the countryside.
And standing there for a moment, I couldn’t help thinking how lucky Darren and I are that we found this place.
We often talk about everything you can do from Hafren Forest Hideaway...
🥾 Walk through Hafren Forest or along Glyndŵr’s Way
🎣 Fly fishing on Llyn Clywedog
🚴 Mountain biking and cycling
🚣 Paddleboarding and canoeing
🏍️ Exploring the roads, trails and byways of Mid Wales
But actually, you don’t have to do any of those things.
You can come here simply to enjoy the view.
To have a slow morning with a cup of coffee.
To sit outside and watch the changing seasons.
To spend an afternoon doing absolutely nothing.
And when the evening comes, settle into our cosy lounge, light the woodburner and enjoy a little peace and quiet.
Because sometimes taking it easy is just as important as having an adventure.
That’s the beauty of a stay at Hafren Forest Hideaway.

Is decorating for autumn really necessary? Probably not. Do I love doing it? Absolutely.

I don’t go mad. A few little pumpkins here, some silly autumn characters there, and my favourite little hedgehogs making me smile every time I walk past them.

And yes, I know some people might look at it and think, “What’s the point?”
But here’s the thing...
Running Hafren Forest Hideaway is a huge part of our life, and I spend so much time working, cleaning, cooking, organising and keeping everything running that when I find something that simply brings me joy, I think that’s reason enough.

It takes a little time, but I enjoy it.
And yesterday evening, when I’d lit the woodburner, switched on the lamps and added those little autumn touches before our guests arrived, one of them walked into the lounge and said:
“Oh, sorry... have I come into your home? Are we in the right place?
I smiled and said:
“No... this is your home for the next two nights.”

And honestly, that’s exactly how I want our guests to feel.
Not like they’ve walked into a hotel.
Not like they’re staying somewhere cold and impersonal.
But like they’ve arrived somewhere that has been cared for, where they can kick back, get cosy, enjoy the Mid Wales countryside and feel completely at home.

So yes, I’ll keep putting my silly little hedgehogs out every autumn. 🦔
Because if something makes ME smile, isn’t that reason enough?

🍂 There are a number of things I really love about autumn at Hafren Forest Hideaway...

The colours outside... And the Autumn menu! 😋
I have to admit, getting up in the dark to prepare breakfast is not my favourite part of autumn. But knowing I’m going to send our guests out for the day with a hearty breakfast makes those early mornings worthwhile.

And then there are the puddings...
🍎 Pear crumble with custard has become a real autumn favourite here.

Some guests choose cream, some go for custard, but the verdict is pretty much always the same...
They love the crumble!

There is something rather lovely about an autumn day in Mid Wales. Head out into the great outdoors, explore Hafren Forest, walk part of Glyndŵr’s Way, visit the Source of the River Severn, enjoy Fly Fishing at Llyn Clywedog or take your Mountain Bike to one of the many parks here in Mid Wales.

Then come back to the Hideaway, warm up with a hearty home-cooked evening meal and settle down in our cosy lounge in front of the woodburner.

That’s my idea of an autumn day well spent.
And perhaps a second helping of crumble. 😉

🎂🐾 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝟭 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆!
Happy 1st Birthday to our Bryn ❤️
Bryn has been with us for 10 months and, in that time, he has managed to turn our lives upside down, sideways and pretty much every direction in between!
When he first arrived, he was tiny enough to carry around in our arms.
Now... not so much! 😂
Somehow our little puppy has grown into a rather large, very happy Sprocker who absolutely loves life.
He loves his walks, coming away in the campervan, being out on the water with Darren, exploring new places and, most of all, saying hello to absolutely everyone he meets.
Unfortunately, his enthusiasm can sometimes get the better of him, and if he gets really excited, you might want to watch your feet as he may have a little wee! 😂
His recall still needs a little work, but we are getting there... slowly!
And then there are our guests.
We always joke that when our regulars arrive we are greeted with
“Hi Sarah, hi Darren, lovely to see you.” WHERE’S BRYN?” 🐾😂
Bryn really has become part of the Hafren Forest Hideaway family, and we love watching him greet guests, make friends and generally bring a little bit of chaos and a lot of joy wherever he goes.
Life with a puppy hasn’t always been easy, but we honestly wouldn’t change him.
He makes us laugh every day, gets us out walking, keeps us on our toes and has brought us so much happiness.
So today we’re celebrating our not-so-little boy.
🎂 Happy 1st Birthday Bryn.
Here’s to another year of muddy paws, wagging tails, adventures, campervan trips, new friends and hopefully... a slightly more reliable recall! 😂❤️
