Heart of Wales Line Trail 🚂

Made the most of the sunshine earlier this week by catching the train from Llandovery to Cynghordy and walking the 7 miles back.

Stunning scenery from start to finish and the trail is very well signposted throughout and very enjoyable and something we’ve been meaning to do since we arrived here.

Finished the day with a well earned beer at The Bear Llandovery but with 5 pubs to choose from you’ve got your pick. A brilliant walk and one I’d definitely recommend🍺☀️

It is with deep sadness and immense heartbreak that we lost our sweet Poppy 2 weeks ago. She had a fantastic life (would have been 17 in Aug) and the past 3 years in Wales seemed it gave her a new lease of life especially with all the walking she did and fresh Welsh air.
We will miss her so much and the B&B won’t be the same without her here.
If you stayed with us then you’ll know she was the heart of the B&B, always wanted to know what was in your bags.

Last week we finally crossed off 2 more must-do’s from our list since moving here just over 3 years ago. Sorry it’s taken us so long… it’s been a busy 3½ years!

One of them was The Big Pit National Coal Museum in Blaenavon.

What makes it special is that it’s an actual former working coal mine, not just exhibits behind glass. You go underground in the original miners’ cage lift with former miners as guides. The underground tour takes visitors around 90 metres below ground through real mine workings — a fascinating experience and definitely one to remember.

You could easily spend a whole day in the area too, with plenty of attractions nearby including:

• Blaenavon Ironworks
• Blaenavon Railway
• Rhymney Brewery
• Keepers Pond

Definitely worth a day out — and only around an hour from here.

Wales offers some of the best driving roads in Europe, featuring sweeping mountain passes, dramatic coastal routes, and challenging switchbacks.

Black Mountain Pass (A4069)
Location: Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park
The Route: A 20-mile stretch running between Llandovery in the north and Brynamman in the south.
The Drive: Made famous by Top Gear, this road climbs over the Black Mountain, featuring steep inclines, open moorland, hairpins, and the legendary "drift-hairpin".

Abergwesyn Pass (The Devil's Staircase)
Location: Cambrian Mountains, Mid-WalesThe Route: Connects Tregaron to Abergwesyn and Llanwrtyd Wells.
The Drive: A remarkably remote, single-track road through dense pine forests and over steep, barren moorland. It includes the "Devil's Staircase," a series of severe 1-in-4 switchbacks and blind crests. And if you go via Llyn Brianne down towards Tregarron it’s such a beautiful road also with stunning views.

These are just two of the attractions located very close to us, and we’ve welcomed countless car enthusiasts who’ve visited specifically to experience them.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had many guests asking us to arrange dinner reservations in town, and the latest bookings have been for The Whitehall Llandovery

The feedback we’ve received has been fantastic, with guests thoroughly enjoying both the food and hospitality.

We’ve personally eaten here for lunch a dinner over the past few days and confirm it’s pretty good, the Meat Mezze and the Chicken Kiev are fab
