Like most summers we hosted a nest of wasps this year only this time they decided to move in with us for the autumn. So we decided to let them stay and see what their presence had to teach us. And we have been amazed! Not only are they one of nature's great pollinators they do a host of other things we had no idea about. For example, if it were not for them the plant would probably be overrun by other parasites that would eat all of our crops!

Here are 10 things we didn't know about wasps. https://www.bbowt.org.uk/blog/jenny-mccallum/10-things-you-didnt-know-about-wasps

What if some of the answers we’re searching for today were discovered and shared thousands of years ago?

Join us for this residential weekend of timeless wisdom & discovery, taking place in just over two weeks.

Friday 6 - Sunday 8 November

Step away from the noise of everyday life and enjoy exploring some of humanity’s great traditions of wisdom — not simply as ideas to study, but as insights to experience, question and bring to life.

● Across the weekend, we’ll journey through some of humanity's oldest wisdoms from ancient Egypt, the Bhagavad Gita and the Bible using hermeneutics, the art of interpretation, to explore the deeper meanings held within these extraordinary traditions.

But Wisdom of the Ancients is not about sitting and listening all weekend. Our study sessions will be interactive, experiential and accessible, with opportunities to explore how timeless ideas can move from the page into our everyday lives.

● We’ll complement our study with the Japanese art of Aikido and principles and practice of Yoga — giving us the opportunity to move from idea to embodiment, and to experience wisdom through both mind and body.

The weekend will be lead by Hephzibah Yohannan of the alongside Input from some of our other teachers.

● Flexible pricing allows you to pay what you can after an initial deposit of £50 to secure your place.

Sunrise over the valley 🌄

What a sight to behold, this view from the veranda.

As we watch the world awaken, so we are inspired by all that we see, hear and feel.

How blessed we are to experience mornings that move us.

How blessed we are to wake each day anew.

☀️ Summer Yoga Retreat 2026 ☀️

Sharing moments captured during our sunny, summer Yoga retreat at the beginning of July.

We practiced early morning Aum chanting, asana, pranayama and meditation, enjoyed nourishing veggie & vegan meals together, sang and played music around the fire, lots of discussion touching on themes of life, healing, hermenuetics, philosophy and Consciousness. Plus many touching moments of connection and laughter.

These retreats are made what they are by the people. The collective energy cultivated is always unique, with so much to share and learn from one another.

With many thanks to all who added a little magic to our mix and to those who, so willingly, gave their time to help make it happen.

Please join us for a weekend of study and relaxation with Hephzibah Yohannan, of the Eugene Halliday Association.

This is a 'pay what you can' retreat, kindly sponsored by the Mr & Mrs F C Freeman Charitable Trust.

What can we learn from the Ancients?

What is the meaning of life?

Modern materialist scientists think they have everything more or less explained, but there is so much which is left unexplored. Humankind have been exploring inner space for thousands of years through meditation and introspective study which remains of great value to us today. We can learn about this from the Egyptians, and from texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, the Tao Te Ching, the Bible and other world religions.

Great modern thinkers such as Carl Jung have recognised the value of this. So too have more recent explorers of our psychology and philosophies such as Eugene Halliday, founder of the International Hermeneutic Society (IHS), the charity that owns Tan y Garth Hall Retreat.

"Hermeneutics is the science of interpretation. The theory of the discovery and communication of the thoughts and teachings of the scriptures of the world; the science of attaining clarity both in comprehending and explaining the sense of traditional and biblical authors".

During this weekend we will explore some of this ancient wisdom in the delightful and relaxed surroundings of the hall.
