We’d like to wish a great big Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! And a special Happy Fathers Day to the fathers on our Red Kite team, we appreciate you all incredibly 🥰

To Terry, without you, we’d have no Rich, and no Red Kite 😁

To Rich, our owner, the father of Red Kite if you will 😁

And lastly, but by no means least, to Mike, our wonderful groundsman! 😁

We hope you all have a wonderful Father’s Day, and get thoroughly spoilt 🥰

📷 Birds of Prey Spotted 📷

There’s a reason we’re called Red Kite! We’re frequently blessed with the phenomenal birds of prey soaring over us 😍

However, it’s not just Red Kites you can spot on your holidays! You can often see buzzards flying over too 😁

Thank you to Richard on Pitch 40 for these fantastic photos from your stay last week!

🤗 Meet the Team 🤗

Moving on to this week, we have our second lovely Lauren! 😁

A bit about you:
I am a Yorkshire lass and I love travelling around and experiencing new places! I’ve been with my fiancée Lauren for 12 years this year 🥰 I was a dog groomer for 9 years and absolutely adore dogs, then we decided to sell our home, buy a van and fit it out with zero experience 😅 we've been living in a van for 2 years now, seen so many countries and can't imagine it any other way! The freedom is life changing. ☺️

When did you start working at Red Kite?
April this year 😁

What do you love most about living in this area?
Green is one of my favourite colours🌿 and I'm just surrounded by it here, the trees and the hills make me happy every day! The peace and quiet is unmatched. I feel so lucky 😄

What do you like to do on your days off?
I love a big muddy walk with a picnic! My chihuahua Pablo (will definitely bite) would strongly disagree. (The prince cannot get his paws wet 👑 )

Guilty pleasure?
Bed rotting with my doggies, eating the entire pack of any sweet treat I open🍬😋, listening to Michael Jackson on repeat. Hee hee.

Most listened to song lately?
Somebody Else - The 1975

Pro:
Will do my best to help anyone who needs it.
Fabulous dark sense of humour😇

Con:
Definitely a little weird.
Will probably fall over at least once a day.🥴
The way I say "am gunna gu shops"

🍞 Campervan… or loaf? 🍞

We had this super quirky little campervan on site this week! Bringing brightness and colour to what admittedly has been a rather grey few days ☁️

Even more joyful? These campers are affectionately nicknamed “Bukhanka”, which translates to “loaf of bread” 😁

🤗 Meet the Team 🤗

This week we’re moving on to the first of our lovely Lauren(s)! 😁

A little bit about you:
I am from 'gods own country' hense my strong yorkshire accent you all like to point out :)
Me and my partner sold our house and decided to do our own van build as we craved a more outdoorsy life in nature with more time for adventures with our dogs, trying new food, seeing more sights and learning there is more to life than money/work/house/car.
It took a year and alot of youtube but we did it! We went around Scotland, all of England and then decided to travelled around Europe for a year and a bit!
We then decided to give wardening a go and got the job here and started in April and so far so good we love it here and decided to stay for longer!

What do you love most about living in this area?
I feel like this area is a hidden gem, not many people come here they just pass through! But there is stunning walks and cute towns and lots of wildlife plus I found my first chanterelle mushrooms foraging near site 🍄‍🟫

What do you like to do on your days off?
Walking, baking different types of bread or pizzas in my ooni oven. Chilling out having a nice red wine and good food, chatting and listening to music.

Guilty pleasure?
Either baking sweet treats or buying custard doughnuts from the co op and just eating them all in one night binge watching a series or film, the diet starts tomorrow...

Most listened to song lately?
Crazy on you - The Hearts or Yes and? - Ariana Grande

Pro:
Love a good chat, will always help you eat that last slice of pizza or cake. Can always provide a laugh when it comes to clumsiness or bad spelling mistakes or pronouncing a town or exotic foods.

Con:
Can come across abit blunt and also have an extremely dry sense of humour/ultra sarcasm.

Dogs have been welcome in the garden during the winter months for some time. Now, for a trial period from Saturday 6 June to 31 October 2026, we’re extending this welcome into the summer season. We will be reviewing feedback from visitors, staff and volunteers throughout.

All we ask if that you use a short, non-extendable lead, stick to paths on the dog-friendly route, and clean up after your pet. Waste bins and water bowls are available.

Dogs are welcome on paths in most outdoor areas, but won’t be able to access the Great Lawn, the East Front, the Italianate Terraces or the privately owned wider estate. Indoor access is limited to the Ticket Office and Second-Hand Bookshop.
