We’re very sad to share the news that our male Asiatic lion, Bhanu, is no longer with us 🦁💛

He was peacefully euthanised on Wednesday 8 April following a sudden deterioration in several age‑related conditions that our veterinary team had been carefully managing for a number of years.

For many guests who have stayed at the London Zoo Lodges, Bhanu was a defining part of their experience — majestic, charismatic, and never shy about making his presence known.

Bhanu was a powerful reminder of why these incredible animals deserve our respect, admiration, and protection. He also played an important role in the conservation of his species, fathering three cubs — Mali, Syanii and Shanti — with their mum, Arya.

Having been with us since the Lodges opened 10 years ago, Bhanu created unforgettable memories for so many visitors. He will be deeply missed by staff and guests alike.
