Ok so we’re all aware that whilst I can make pretty cakes, they’re just not my thing 🙈
So once I got the display piece (decorated at the Hillingdon Chamber of Commerce expo on Friday) back home, I decided to make it more me.
The corset was too….. nice, and I didn’t want to destroy it, but to add to it.
Then I had a moment.

I LOVE a juxtaposition piece, showing stark contrasts between two opposing styles.

The bright and open flowers on the skirt (showing proof of being cared for) are in full bloom, acting as a distraction from the overgrowth and decay of the corset, which has been neglected and abandoned.
Beauty drawing attention away from what is deemed as ugly.

But there’s a glimmer of what was once beautiful on the corset, with the gold embellishments still shining bright from underneath.
You can see once the vines are cleared, the moss is removed and the corset cleaned, that beauty which was always underneath it all, will be restored.

The body, which was damaged a little on the journey home, has each blemish and mark highlighted with gold.
The scars will always be there.
There’s no hiding them.
So emphasising those with something as valuable as gold, shows they’re not to be hidden, but showcased with pride.
Proof of a journey made, and survived.

I think we can all relate in one way or another.
Our lives are a journey. We get bumped and bruised along the way. We neglect parts of ourselves which should have always been nurtured. We put a lot into keeping the focus on the things we want people to see, in the hopes they ignore the things we don’t.
Maybe one day what was allowed to decay will be restored, and the beauty that is you will be bright and shining.
Because we all deserve to love every part of us, no matter what it’s been through, or still going through. ❤️

Anyway! That’s enough of that.

Quite often, I’m asked “what’s your favourite cake you’ve made?”, and honestly, that’s such a difficult question!

When you love your job as much as I do, there’s so many favourites, and they all have their reasons.
Cthulhu is on the list, as it was my first gold at cake international. At the time, one of my idols (now my friend), said it was their favourite, and I was so taken aback!
Lloyd the Llove Llama is there too. He’s so full of character and charm, and every new detail I added, had me fall in love with him.
Pikachu was my first structure supported only by just one point at the toe, so he was an achievement I’d unlocked on my structure journey.

There’s many more, but these are definitely my top three.

About yesterday at the Hillingdon Chamber of Commerce business expo!

In the words of Harvey Price “what a day”

A huge thank you to everyone who came to our stand. We took 500 business cards, and we’ve come home with about 20!
I prepped over 500 samples of cakes, brownies, cinnamon rolls and focaccia, and came home with NONE!
We made so many connections, spoke to so many people, and had an audience the whole time watching me finish my display piece live all day, chatting to me, and coming back again and again to see the process and progression.
We had friends come to support us, strangers cheering us on, and I don’t think I stopped smiling and talking the whole time!
Everyone was just AMAZING!

SOMEHOW, despite being shockingly unorganised, and having a stand I threw together in 10 minutes from a hoop I bought on Vinted for £15, the flowers from my studio walls which wouldn’t stay in place on the hoop, and two net curtains I’ve had for years still in their packages, we won the most creative and engaged stand!

Even the cake I was working on was dreadfully finished 😂🙈
Good thing there were no cake judges!
Lloyd the Llove Llama came with us, and I’m surprised he made it back home, as so many people wanted to steal him! He was the real star of the day!

Of course I acted a prat when my name was called for best stand and immediately had cameras in my face 😂🙈
It wouldn’t be me if I didn’t.
I’m nervously waiting for the video to be posted to socials so I can see just how stupid I was 😂🙈 (sorry Kai 😬 embarrassing mum alert)

The Mayor of Hillingdon, Reeta Chamdal, spent so much time talking to us, and she’s honestly one of the nicest, kindest, and just utterly beautiful people I’ve met!
Thank you so much for your kindness, laughter and genuine conversation. It was like talking to a friend I’d known my whole life. ❤️

We are absolutely exhausted today, so whilst I would usually be working in the studio, I’ve decided to have an admin day, and not move from the sofa, which has now fused to me, and we are one. I can’t move, even if I wanted to.

If anyone managed to get any pictures or videos, please tag us in them, or send them our way so we can share them. I didn’t stop all day, so I only have these few.

I’m absolutely LOVING sage green cakes at the moment, like this tall two tier cake I delivered Sunday for Ruben and Alex’s confirmation, comprised of my award winning chocolate fudge cake on the bottom tier, and vanilla cake on the top.

Paired with artificial eucalyptus and dried flowers, it has such a nature vibe, perfect for spring/summer.

A big thank you to Paula, and I hope everyone had a fantastic day Sunday. The food smelled absolutely delicious, and the curious children gathered around me as I set up were absolutely adorable! Such polite and helpful little angels!
Hopefully everyone survived the heat!

I absolutely LOVE making wedding cakes which are completely different from traditional cakes.
Yesterday, I got to do just that.

I delivered this three tier, all vegan, Pokémon and rainbow themed wedding cake to Dorney Court: Weddings & Events in Windsor yesterday morning, and what a beautiful venue it was!
I set up the cake in the gorgeous Windsor countryside, whilst being serenaded by birdsong and horses.
Stunning.

And what’s more, I received a fantastic email from the happy couple today, thanking me for my efforts. 🥰
