Last week was a little Wilde at Hotel Café Royal… 💚🥂

From cucumber sandwiches on arrival and green carnations galore to Dorian Gray patisserie, Ch*****ne, Literary Afternoon Tea and an Irish harpist, we celebrated Oscar Wilde in true Café Royal style.

The pièce de résistance? A very special dinner hosted by Olly Alexander in Wilde’s honour.

A little decadence, a lot of drama, and plenty of Wilde wit.

Keep your eyes peeled for more… 👀

A little Wilde, a lot of dandy💚🥂

Last Friday, Hotel Café Royal and olly alexander raised a glass to Oscar Wilde, bringing together a rather fabulous gathering of close friends and kindred spirits to celebrate London’s most deliciously witty literary icon and former Café Royal Grill patron, in the very room where he once held court.

Sir Ian McKellen, Alan Cu***ng, cmat , Jodie Harsh and Munroe were among the guests for an evening of Wildean wit, dandy dressing and green carnations aplenty.

As Oscar himself famously said, “I can resist everything except temptation.”

Judging by the company, the cocktails and the carnations, we’d say temptation was in very good company. 🍸🌿

🎃 October has arrived…

Autumn is well and truly on its way, which can only mean one thing: pumpkin season is here. 🍂

A little throwback to last year’s pumpkin carving competition, when the Café Royal Grill got a suitably spooky makeover and our pumpkins took centre stage. 🕯️🎃

Consider this your official countdown to cosy season. Bring on autumn. 🍁

Big Smoke. Piccadilly. Hotel Café Royal.

A weekend of music, culture and celebration as Skepta marked not only the release of his long awaited album, but also his birthday.

The celebrations began on Wednesday evening, as fans gathered in Piccadilly Circus to watch an eight-minute visual spanning Skepta’s career, projected across the iconic Piccadilly Lights, right on our doorstep and visible from Skepta’s suite here at Hotel Café Royal. The following evening, the celebrations continued in our Grill Room, where Skepta hosted friends including rapper ©️, artist slawn and LUNDUN., founder of Corteiz. We marked the occasion with bespoke cutlery engraved with ‘SKEPTA’ and a birthday cake presented by our very own Executive Chef, Jude Rozario, before Skepta took to the decks for a DJ set.

With Innocent Smile bringing together Skepta, Chase & Status and British music icon Suggs , it was a fitting celebration for a project rooted in the sounds, stories and cultural mix that make British music so distinctive.
And with British music legends having long found a home at Hotel Café Royal, it felt particularly fitting to welcome Skepta into the story.

There’s a new lady in town 💙🇬🇧

Meet Lady in Blue, the latest Fourth Plinth commission in Trafalgar Square, created by New York-based artist Tschabalala Self.

Known for her work exploring the human figure particularly representations of women. Self has brought a contemporary ‘everywoman’ to the heart of London: a confident woman striding forward in a striking lapis-lazuli blue.

And the best part? She’s just a short stroll from Hotel Café Royal. So whether you’re heading out for a wander, a little culture fix or simply seeing where the day takes you, there’s a new London icon waiting around the corner.

Consider this your sign to take the scenic route. 💙✨

POV: your suite has front-row seats to London’s most iconic backdrop. 🎬

Piccadilly Circus, the lights, Regent Street St James… the kind of view you’ve seen in films, read about in books and probably recognised before you even arrived.

Only this time, you’re not watching the scene - you’re in it. ✨

A novel afternoon has arrived. 📖✨

Introducing London’s Most Literary Afternoon Tea at Hotel Café Royal, where Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf and John le Carré take their seats at the table, and their most iconic works become the inspiration for a rather delicious new chapter.

From Dorian’s Gilded Mirror to Mrs Dalloway’s Hat and The Secret Letter, Head Pastry Chef has turned prose, plot and personality into pâtisserie. Expect a little Wilde decadence, a touch of Woolf’s Bloomsbury and a few le Carré secrets, too.

The savouries have their own literary following, with nods to Rudyard Kipling, W. B. Yeats and George Bernard Shaw. And when the final chapter arrives, three edible books bring the story to a very sweet conclusion.

For more than 160 years, Café Royal has been a place to sit, talk and linger. Now, with joining us for this delicious literary journey, you can browse the books, savour the stories and perhaps discover a new favourite author along the way.

The plot thickens. The tea pours. And the ending? Deliciously sweet.

Now available in the historic Café Royal Grill until 4th November!

Come for the tea. Stay for the plot... ‘BOOK’ now📚✨
