What if you could spend Read a Book Day beside the real-life Hundred Acre Wood? 🍯📖🔑

The latest stop in our ‘The Keys To’ series takes us to High Weald House, a gorgeous country home set within five acres of private grounds, just across the road from Ashdown Forest – the landscape that inspired A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh.

Sleeping up to 16 across the main house and separate cottage, it’s a brilliant one for getting everyone together. There’s a huge open-plan kitchen and dining space, an orangery overlooking the gardens, plenty to keep younger guests entertained and, outside, seemingly endless space for alfresco dinners, garden games and evenings around the firepit.

With woodland, rolling countryside and walking trails right on the doorstep, there is something wonderfully storybook about staying here. And all of this is just an hour from London.

OLIVER'S HOME OF THE WEEK

Imagine arriving at your Mallorcan finca and finding breakfast growing in the garden. Finca Natura has two orchards with more than 30 varieties of fruit, alongside vegetable and herb gardens where guests are welcome to pick whatever is ready.

That connection to the outdoors runs through the whole home. The 70m² glass-walled living and dining space opens up the views and light, while outside you’ll find a green mosaic pool, jacuzzi overlooking the mountains, rooftop terrace and your own tennis and basketball court.

It feels wonderfully rural, but you’re not cut off from the good stuff. Alaró is close by for cafés, restaurants and evenings in the town square, while the surrounding Tramuntana countryside has some of Mallorca’s best walking and cycling.

We’re all guilty of saving things for ‘one day’. The big family holiday. That villa you’ve had bookmarked for months. The place you’ve always wanted to see.

Whether you’re ready to get away sooner than you thought or already dreaming about 2027, there’s something to be said for making the plan. Go last minute, and you could be there in a matter of weeks; book ahead, and you’ll have more choice when it comes to the homes, dates and destinations you really want.

Either way, having something brilliant in the calendar is half the fun.

So, why wait?

We have some incredible homes in our collection, but some come with stories that go back hundreds of years. So, we thought it was time we started sharing them.

First up in our new Homes with History series is Jacobean Manor in North Wales.

The Grade I listed manor was built in 1625 and, remarkably, is still owned by direct descendants of the Lloyd family who built it. The family’s history here stretches back even further, with ancestry traced to Hywel ap Edwin, Prince of Wales in 1096.

There are reminders of its past throughout the house – oak panelling, original beams, intricate carvings, oil paintings and antique four-poster beds. The master bedroom was even the drawing room back in the 18th century.

Today, it’s a home for up to 18 guests, surrounded by beautiful gardens and 100 acres of private estate in the North Wales countryside. Quite a lot of history for one holiday home.

We’ve spent all summer complaining about being too hot, so maybe the holiday we need isn’t another heatwave.

Think a mountain hideaway in the Dolomites, a villa among Slovenia’s Alpine valleys, a home near the breezy Atlantic coast of northern Spain, or somewhere wonderfully remote in the Scottish Highlands or Finnish Lapland.

Because a summer escape doesn’t have to mean chasing 30°C. Sometimes, a beautiful home, cooler mornings, fresher evenings and actually wanting to leave the shade sound pretty good.

HOME OF THE WEEK

Framed by Les Alpilles, La Demi Lune has all the makings of a rather special week away: a 17-metre pool, private tennis court, hammam and some seriously beautiful gardens filled with lavender, olive trees and roses.

There’s a vegetable garden to pick from, fresh eggs from the henhouse, five bikes for exploring and even a couple of resident donkeys and goats. The five king bedrooms sleep 10 adults, while a separate dorm-style room sleeps up to five children – ideal for a big family stay.

And when you do want to venture further, Eygalières is just 3km away, with Saint-Rémy-de-Provence within easy reach too.

For those who judge a holiday home by its interiors first… 👀

Soaring Gothic windows, sculptural kitchens, rooms drenched in terracotta, marble bathrooms and glass-walled living spaces that disappear into the landscape.

Six very different homes, each with interiors that deserve a place on the wish list.

Which one are you checking into? 🗝️

We look at a lot of villas every day, so which ones actually make it onto our own Wishlists? 👀

We asked a few of the teams who know our collection inside out to choose where they’d most like to stay in 2027.

The result: Provence vineyards, Lanzarote sunshine, the Sicilian countryside, sea views in Crete and a classic Algarve escape in the heart of the Golden Triangle.

Swipe to see what made the cut – then tell us, which one are you saving?

Planning a retreat? Your setting can make all the difference. 🌿

Many of our larger homes offer far more than somewhere to stay, with the space, privacy and facilities to bring a whole group together under one roof – whether you’re planning a wellness weekend, creative retreat or something entirely your own.

Villa Jolivet in the South of France is a rather brilliant example. Set across 40,000 square metres of private countryside, this restored 600-year-old farmhouse sleeps 19, with a huge pool, tennis and pétanque courts, a gym, cinema room, library and plenty of space to gather (or disappear for an hour).

Jennifer, founder of The Medium Experience and The Experience Retreats, recently chose Villa Jolivet for one of her female-only spiritual retreats – designed around real transformation, without sacrificing a taste for luxury. We absolutely loved seeing the home brought to life.

Consider this slight drop in temperature your sign to start thinking about Christmas in the mountains… 🎄⛷️

Snow outside, a fire going, everyone under one roof, and the very real possibility of spending Christmas morning on skis. Or New Year’s Eve somewhere in the Alps with Ch*****ne already on ice.

From Megève and Courchevel to Chamonix, Morzine and Val d’Isère, we've been eyeing up the chalets and mountain homes we’d happily disappear to this winter.
