The out-of-office has officially been retired.

September is when London gets back into its stride: meetings return to the diary, taxis get harder to find and everyone suddenly remembers the emails they were ignoring in August.

Fortunately, there are gentler ways to begin.

Breakfast upstairs. Coffee within reach. Marylebone downstairs.

A short wander from The Welbeck takes you to Cafe on Chiltern Street: part café, part neighbourhood institution and an excellent place to lose half an hour over a flat white and the latest issue.

Our advice? Don’t make the next reservation too tight.

Drinks downstairs.

Room service much later than planned.

Then breakfast together the next morning, naturally.

One of the things we love most about Marylebone is that every street seems to reveal another independent shop and specialist in their field.
