Vinegar Hill Pottery Pottery studio offering courses, handmade commissions, ready-to-buy pots and accommodation. Come and visit us or check out our website for more information!

Here at Vinegar Hill we can offer you fabulous B&B accommodation as well as the chance to learn how to throw a pot on the potters wheel. Our one day pottery course experience gets your creative juices flowing as well as satisfying your stomach with a delicious home cooked sit down lunch ( at lots of tea and cake in the morning!). We also have a gallery of Dave's work which ranges from mugs and jugs to large one off pieces and hand thrown basins. We are situated a few minutes walk from the beach, just on the outskirts of the New Forest National Park so whether you are filling your day making pots, or just using us as a base to explore the area, there is a huge amount to see and do here.

Six casserole dishes in the making.

Once the clay has dried sufficiently, each dish is carefully trimmed and refined before adding our maker’s mark and signature handles, individually pulled, rolled and attached by hand.

We’re busy preparing new pieces to ensure our gallery is fully stocked for our Christmas Show in late November. Further details will be announced shortly, so keep an eye out! 💙

The best pottery trick? Painters tape.

We’ve been busy working on a new batch of wood-fired mugs, carefully marking, taping and dipping each one to create that lovely crisp two-tone finish.

It might look like a simple process, but getting that clean line takes a little patience, a steady hand and our trusted painters tape!

Starting with a round plate, we cut it into a square, and use the leftover sections for smaller tapas and soap dishes. A fantastic way to turn one piece of clay into three and make the most of every piece of clay!

These proved so popular as part of a recent commission that we’ve been asked to make another batch. They’ll all be finished in a custom white and woodfire glaze, but for now, here’s a little look at the next lot taking shape in the studio. 💙

There’s a lot to watch during one of Dave’s demonstrations, especially when he makes it all look so straightforward…

During our pottery courses, we talk you through what’s happening as he demonstrates, giving you time to watch the different techniques and ask questions before having a go yourself.

Getting a feel for pottery can take a little practice, so the help doesn’t stop when the demonstration does. With over 35 years’ experience, Dave is there to work through it with you, whether you’re trying the wheel for the first time or developing the skills you already have. 💙

This week, we’re delighted to be sending out the next instalment in our collection for the newly released ‘Forest House’ at Lime Wood Hotel.

This range includes espresso cups, bowls, jugs, casserole dishes and more, all made here in our pottery studio.

The pots feature our wood-fired finish, but with a bespoke twist created especially for Limewood. In place of our usual white, we’ve used a soft cream glaze, chosen to sit beautifully alongside the striped pieces they’ll also be receiving.

It’s been lovely seeing the collection grow, and especially seeing all the different pieces starting to come together.

A few more pieces finished, packed and ready for their new home. 🤎
